What is the correct way to measure for a rug under a table?

I found the perfect kitchen under table rug. I have a 48" round table and the rug is 63" in diameter.

I will be replacing this old & tired wicker set (probably from the 90's which was left with the house) with a nice country french set in a few months.

I would like to purchase this rug as I'm sure in a couple of months I won't find it! (isn't this always the way!!!)

** Oh can I use a 5x7 rectangular under the table although it is round?

Can anyone tell me the correct way to measure that it will look ok? Thanks!
