Re: What is Your Favorite Mattress?

I wish I knew.  We would already have a new one if I did.

Every mattress in this house right now is a Beautyrest.

Re: What is Your Favorite Mattress?

@Sooner I think I have beautyrest ultra plush pillow top.  I really love it.  When I was shopping for mattresses there were other brands that came close - one that comes to mind was sterns and foster a couple of there models anyway.

What's the feel of the mattress you're looking for?  I only like a softer feel to my mattresses so I dont like the gels or memory foam.  I'm very picky and so I would never order by mail .  Other people do fine that way.

@moonandthestars We both like a pretty firm mattress.  We have had Stearns and Foster the last two and have been happy with those.  We like a traditional mattress and box springs and not a big pillow top.  A little is ok, but not something you can't turn over in!

Re: What is Your Favorite Mattress?

@Sooner I even have a plush mattress topper I use over my plush pillow top mattress!  Somehow I don't really sink in and can roll over easily.  It's just very comfy!   I'm just like the princess and the pea and it has to be perfect.  Probably the only downside to me of the pillow top is that it can't be flipped - you know it's a one side thing.  Also, it makes my bed very tall!

Firm mattresses are everywhere!  You have a lot of choices and I'm sure that is part of the down side.  So many choices/options. Do you have mattress stores in your area? Or department stores sometimes have them.  It's always interesting to go lay on a few or as many as possible.  They also have some beds more natural materials available, like made with wool, or a natural latex material - these are usually more firm too.  I just did a quick google and apparently those casper beds and I will assume the other popular one - are not to be used with box springs so maybe those are out for you.

Good luck with it!  Maybe you'll get another sterns and foster?

Re: What is Your Favorite Mattress?

When we needed a new set, I tried the highest end Tempurpedic.  Luckily I got it at a store that allows for return and store credit toward a comparable or higher replacement.

The Tempurpedic was "cooling" and it just felt alien somehow. My cat jumped sky-high when he touched it. Like cat on a hot tin roof high.

I decided to go with Kingsdown and love it.  So does cat!

[ Edited ]

About ten years ago we bought an expensive Stearns & Foster set, somewhere around $2500 +/- for the set, and hated it from the start.  We bought a topper for it that only helped a tiny bit.  Because if the investment, we felt obligated to use it but after a few years we were fed up and decided to replace it,  I did a lot of research and we ended up with mattress in a box from Wayfair called the Gramercy Cool Gel 14" Hybrid.  Believe it or not, it was just over $400 for a king. We also purchased a platform that doesn't require a box spring.  We LOVE our mattress and after seven years, we're still quite comfortable.  I don't know if Wayfair still sells it but it is available on Amazon under a new brand name called Classic Brands, but the actual mattress is the same. It's around $600 now for a king.  If/when we need to replace it, without hesitation we'd get the same one again.  We've also gifted the same mattress to a couple of our kids and they love it as well.

No cooling beds would do for us.  My husband gets cold easily.  I just don't think I would adjust to it either.

@Sooner   The mattress doesn't feel cool at all.  That just means it draws the excess heat away so you remain comfortable.

Saatva.  I have the Saatva Classic mattress in the plush soft as I am a side sleeper.  To me, a firm mattress feels like I'm sleeping on the floor, my whole body aches.  They have sales all the time, no need to pay full price.

An estimated 700,000 people around the world, 400,000 of them children, have died so far due to the discontinuation of the USAID program.
