QVC2 Big Deal today. I'm thinking about getting one and keeping it thrown over the back of the couch. Anyone have opinions on these?

The purpose of a weighted blanket is to relieve anxiety and feel comforted.  How would this work if it's draped over the back of the couch?  There are cheaper, more attractive throws if you just want a decorator accessory.

When I saw the presentation I thought of the weighted vests for dogs to help them with anxiety from thunderstorms or fireworks.  What do the people the weigh over 200 use?  They said during the presentation the 20 lb one was only for people up to 200 lbs??????  Easy pass for me, to expensive and if I need a hug I'll find a human.

While I like to sleep with a blanket year 'round in bed or napping on the couch, I can't imagine trying to turn over with this much weight on me.

I think it would always wake me.

I've seen these presented here before, and just don't see them being for me/us.

I have no need to feel something that heavy on top of me. I like a nice thick heavy blanket sometimes, but this just seems like an overkill gimmicky kind of thing.

@aunt bea What it actually says is

  • Includes 20-lb weighted blanket designed especially for users weighing 150 to over 200 lbs and removable cover

Weighted blankets are used for children and adults with Autism to help make them feel secure and comforted.  They can be a Godsend.  Many special needs classrooms have smaller lap blankets that are placed over the lap for calming.

Animals usually have weighted vests for comfort.  Most are used during thunder storms.

@grandma r.   They are primarily for those suffering from anxiety, as dogs have anxiety during thunderstorms so we put "thunder shirts" on them.  They help make a person feel safe and secure.
