We tend to wear things out, so they don't know who we are.

My last response might have sounded dismissive, but I really think it is great that you found a lot of things to donate. Our church once held a rummage sale in a gymnasium, and we took four big loads of stuff. Some sheets and small appliances were still in their original packing. The church was grateful to get so much from us. Now, I generally don't buy anything new unless it's a replacement.

@Sooner

A few years ago, I did a major home purge and clothing.  (I need to do a home purge again, for decorator and Christmas items).  We took them to the Salvation Army.  Fortunately, there was only one man there and he didn't seem to know sh*t from Shinola but took our "stuff" and placed the 15 bags in their appropriate places inside.  He said that "Miss XXXXXX would be back "this afternoon" and sort it out."  I guess Miss XXXXX was the manager.  Since Goodwill is much closer to our home, I take "stuff" there unless our church is having a drive for something like hurricane/tornado victims.  We were supporting a mission in NOLA and I was giving to that but something happened to that and it fell apart.  It was for reforming drug/alcohol-addicted homeless people.  I don't know what happened to our partnership with them, but something did and we are looking for another place to give.  We also give to the right-to-life facility in our area but mostly they take money and some baby clothes and maternity clothes but they have to be in great condition so our SS class just goes out and buys stuff and gives monetarily to that.

Maybe we should ask them when and if we donate.

@ahoymate

Yes humor ....haven't we all thought,even for a second "What will people think of this stuff"as we're preparing to haul it to the SA?

Especially if you're handing it over a counter to get a tax receipt instead of just using the collection box???

Sheesh.....You appear to be a new poster.....so I'll give you benefit of the doubt....YES of course some DON'T care, but some do, and some take care to make thier donations as presentable as possible even when anonymous ( like in the collection box).

Again....sheeesh.

Re: We have donated much stuff that. . .

When we downsized to our townhouse we donated so many truck fulls of stuff to a local cat shelter.  They have flea markets once a month and sell the donated items to support the shelter.  On our last trip of donations the lady in charge actually asked us to stop coming as they were running out of room in the storage area, LOL!   We did give many larger items such as outdoor furniture and things like that.  Plus our previous home was fairly large so we had things stored that family members had left there and no longer wanted.   There was no way I was taking that  cr*p with us!   When we moved I said, sorry no longer have a big basement, can't store anyone elses stuff any more........
