Re: We are cold down South.......

Omgosh, that is just silly. Don't worry about those people. Those same people probably don't know how to drive in it either. This weather is bad and makes conditions dangerous regardless of where you are and how much you have driven in it. .....especially ice. There is nothing you can do but go slow.

Re: We are cold down South.......

just to give all of you some more perspective on this and what people deal w/ other places...it's -26 here today in MT where we live, as in 56 degrees below 0. now not supposed to warm up 'til the weekend and even then it'll just be a little above 0...if we're really lucky Smiley Wink BUT we consider ourselves lucky 'cause it's -35 in gt. falls and -43 in west Yellowstone...it's all about perspective I guess! the coldest we've seen in our almost 20 years out here was -47 the first winter we lived out here...boy were we shocked. but even then schools didn't close, nothing closes...there are no snow days, no days when things close due to extreme cold either...my son had to go to college in new mexico to experience his first snow day when they closed down the university and the entire town for a dusting (no snow equipment there) and my oldest daughter had to move to Kentucky to experience her first snow day...my middle daughter has never experienced one to date! my husband just left for work...and on it goes...so all you good people down south and just about everywhere else in the country where it's gotta be milder than THIS, enjoy your weather today whatever it may be! and think about us out here in the frozen tundra 'cause you'll never see our stories on the news...

I'm afraid this winter has been brutal for so many. If it helps, my dear nephew lives just over the border from Minot, N.D. in Canada. They have had a horrible winter and for a Georgia boy, it's really been hard. What amazes me is that every chance they get, they are outside with the children doing things. Of course, my niece did tell me that at a certain degree below zero, your eyelids freeze so they can't go out. I don't know how anyone lives. We are always watching the weather to see how much worse it could possibly get.

I hope that you will stay safe and warm. Take extra precautions when you can.

Re: We are cold down South.......

Retired08, you made me laugh Smiley Happy that thing about how cold it has to be before your eyelids freeze shut is what we were just talking about yesterday in line in the grocery store...Nobody could agree on what temp. it has to be before your eyelids freeze shut or the inside of your nose freezes. I mean, seriously, if ya have to stand there and debate it, it's already WAY TOO COLD Smiley Wink and yes, there will be people here up on the mountains skiing in this cold and kids walk down the road to get the bus, etc., etc....your nephew will get used to it, we did. And it does get really hot here in the summer which some people can't believe. It is a dry heat, no humidity to speak of, but it'll be up in the 90's (and sometimes 100) before the summer's done. The snow is beautiful and I do love it but I am always much more thankful for spring now than I ever was when I lived back east. The lilacs we planted around the deck will bloom and my beloved peonies I planted along the southside of our garage will bloom in june and spill over the stone wall I stacked around them and everything will green up (thanks to inground sprinklers...nothin' would green up around here w/out some additional water). Everybody has something to deal w/ weather-wise, that's for sure...

Re: We are cold down South.......

I'm in Ok & it's really cold here too. Our high past couple of days has only been 10°-12°. We had 5"" snow Tues with another 1"" or so last night & lightly snowing now & calling for another 1"" tomorrow & more next week. At least it's supposed to get in the 30°'s this weekend so hopefully some of it will melt. I have not been out of the house for a week. I don't drive on this stuff as most people think it's like driving on dry pavement & it's not. Since it's not warming up enough with the added snow from people driving on it & turning to ice overnight the roads are slick & hazardous. DH stayed home yesterday but went to work today. At least he can go in when ever & wait for most people to get to work & off the roads & he can leave early before everyone gets back on the roads. Also glad we had snow as we usually get ice & that causes power outages. I know there are a lot of people without power & know what that's like. We now have a generator if we need it. Hope everyone is staying warm & safe.

Message to our Southern states -- please warm up -- where are the rest of us going to escape to? BTW -- you are welcome up north in July & August. Hope you are comfortable and weather warms up soon for you.

I think I would rather go some place cold in the summer. I like it cold. I just don't like driving on ice.

Re: We are cold down South.......

I do hope that all you folks in Oregon are warm and will find the salt that you need for your highways. On HLN news this morning, the warning to Portland was "Don't Be Like Atlanta". HLN newscasters didn't do a Ha Ha over that either, but, believe it or not, we've heard worse.

Georgia Power Trucks were heading out for all over to help out.
