We take advantage of grocery store gift card desls BIG TIME. Usually get $1.50 off/gal. Also have Fuel Rewards card and have gotten even more off (and not even sure what I'm doing right!).

Plus we get an automatic 5% off at a major station on a lot of turnpikes because my DH worked for the oil co.

Fortunately when we're in California we don't have to pay for our gas, his company does. Their gas is priced high for sure. Gas in CA can only be processed in CA, not in other states. That may play a part in price, but not totally sure.

I don't drive around for the heck of it. Have no problem walking for blocks to get a few items at grocery store. Summer traffic is crazy sometimes. Best to plan ahead to avoid it. You learn!

There are high taxes on gas in Pa too. Not near as high as Calif. though. It would shock us every year when we would go up to Pa for the summer, how much higher gas was there. Currently, here in SW Fl. it is about $2.75 /gallon. Take off our 5cents then the 20% and we end up paying $2.16 which seems very reasonable to me.

Hi @151949  Just an FYI, PA now has the highest state gasoline tax in the US. Per gallon it is 58.2 cents, that doesn't include the standardized federal tax of 18.4 cents.

Its rare to see a price under $3.00 a gallon for regular.  We get fuel perks from Giant Eagle and Shop & Save.  It helps, but we don't really drive much so gasoline isn't a big factor in our budget.  It's those dang school property taxes that rise every year.
