Waterford Crystal....Does anyone care

I did grow up in the era where people would care about crystal but never really understood it. Same for fine China.  For me glass is glass.  I guess now that I think about it, they must be selling a lot on Evine or they would not be on there.

I love quality items no matter what the medium.

Evine sells Waterford made in Solvenia, the product is not what it was.

@chiclet

Real Waterford crystal is actually hand-blown lead crystal glass.  While some true Waterford  lead crystal is being sold on Evine, most of it is actually "crystalline"---a different and lesser version that is sturdier and can even survive in the dishwasher.

I've had both, with the real Waterford crystal coming from wedding presents many years ago. When I moved, I sent to auction, or consigned, or  sold my real Waterford crystal (too fragile, too hard to take care of, chips so easily that you don't even want to bring it out for guests).

I now own drinkware in Marquis-by-Waterford crystalline and don't care if someone chips or breaks it because of the price I paid for it--and it seems pretty hard to break, anyway.

I think Waterford crystal is gorgeous, but I have no use for any of it.  I have a decanter from many, many years ago.  That's enough for me.

I have some of it from about 40 years ago.  The decanter is not useful for keeping liquids in.  Lead leaches into the liquid at unsafe levels.  I used to always have one sitting with bourbon in it on my dining room sideboard.  I guess I didn’t open it enough and the decanter stopper got stuck.  I couldn’t get it off.  I used it for decorative purposes, but finally had to throw it out.

I still use candy dishes, bowls and a vase, but no longer use lead glassware.  I am with you.  I don’t need any more and don’t want lead poisoning.

I have several pieces of "real" Waterford Crystal and love using it.  I guess I am old school.  I like a nice dinner table with a nice presentation.  If they break, they break.  I use what I have regardless of brand.  I used to "save" my nicer things, now I use them.

Re: Waterford Crystal....Does anyone care

I have an appreciation of finely made items. I own the original Waterford from Ireland, & it's spectacular.

Drinking from a beautiful goblet is an experience. And putting fresh flowers in a meticulously blown/cut vase makes them look even more lovely.

For me, it's all about taking the time to appreciate their beauty & fine craftsmanship. I'll take drinking from a Waterford goblet over a red plastic cup any day of the week. Heart

I don't have Waterford but my crystal costs just as much!  Nothing like fine china and crystal.

Re: Waterford Crystal....Does anyone care

I inherited several pieces of crystal from an aunt ... all pitchers.  Lovely to look at but entirely too heavy to use.

So - I've repurpoed them from pitchers to hold and display my vast collection of knitting needles.
