I am inexperienced with these. I have tried a couple of brands, but does anybody have a favorite brand they would recommend?
Thanks,

as an artist I use good pencils without them containing wax . Some good brands would be Fabre castell or derwent. Good luck

@Doc74, thank you for your advice. Many like Derwent, so I think I will try those....
I'm just "playing" right now-but learning a lot. They are a great compliment to my Prismacolor pencils.
I am absolutely fascinated with water-oceans, streams, reflections, tropical water-but I need better pencils than what I'm using now.

prismacolor pencils contain wax. Sorry

I like Prismacolor pencils....at this point in my "career" I'm not forking out big bucks on Holbeins!
Does Prismacolor even make water color pencils? I've never thought to look into that.
I will go with the Derwents for now. I did order a basic set of Fabers, but they haven't arrived yet. I'm in the hobbyist phase of trying out brands to see what works....
You can't ever have too many colored pencils! I'm very happy with the Prismacolors so far: the only color pencils I ever used were cheap ...with the Prismacolors, I find them so easy to layer and blend: I really surprised myself with what can be accomplished!
Thank you for your advice.

These are what my daughter uses, too. Derwent is her first choice.

My artist aunt suggested *COLORARTY* artist grade water color pencils to me.
I ordered from Amazon and they are in a nice canvas roll up case with about 50 long pencils for a decent price.
I am getting back into coloring books for adults, I like to take the page out and place on a clipboard for easy access.
What type of art are you working with?

Hi @gacat123! I have always loved art and took lessons every summer when I was a child. I did pen and ink and some medical illustration.
Everything fell by the wayside, and in our early days of marriage, no way could I have afforded art supplies.
My DIL loves adult coloring books, and for her birthday, I bought her some and treated her to a collection of Prismacolor pencils....I couldn't resist-ordered books and Prismacolors for myself. It's so good for fine motor skills-something I need to keep up with.
....I fell in love...in no time at all, I enrolled in several drawing and colored pencils on Craftsy. I quickly realized water color pencils and colored pencils can go hand in hand.....
It's a fun, healthy addiction!
I am frustrated with the cheap water color pencils I bought: I know there's too much wax in them and I can't accomplish what I want to do. I had no idea what to buy however hence my questions.
I ended up buying a set of Faber(sic) Castells: I can't wait!
The thing is, you do sharpen these color pencils a lot it seems....it can get expensive, but it's frustrating using cheap materials....
On the coloring book front,, I have some really intricate sea life books which I love.
On the drawing front, I'm learning/relearning basic skills with graphite and charcoal-and having a blast!
I think I will always love coloring books however....they are relaxing!
I will look into the pencils you are suggesting....if they have great pigment saturation and give a true water color effect, I'm in!
What do you like to color?
Thanks for your advice!
