Washer and Dryer questions please

My boyfriend bought the top of the line 8 years ago.......his washer went out yesterday. He paid $2,000 for the washer and $2,000 for the dryer.......any suggestions? They are beautiful and I think they are Whirlpool or Maytag. Do you know of a good one? They don't make his anymore. I never thought a washer would be $2,000. It does everything..for that it should cook dinner.
