Here are 3 examples of rooms that went from warm to white. As I have posted before, regardless of trends, I prefer warm colors over all white rooms. Adding and changing furnishings & accessories could, of course, make a difference, but I don’t think I would ever use white on walls. I’m not sure I would paint over fireplaces, woodwork, and wood beams either. I did paint over wood paneling in our basement to lighten up that area, but I used a cream color, not white.

I prefer the warmth of the “before” rooms, but with my own furnishings.

Other opinions? Do you like the before or the after photos? Would you go “all white”?

I could add my furniture and accessories to this “before” room and be perfectly happy. Don’t care if it looks “dated”; like it much better than the all white version with black fireplace.

I would add some color and contrast to the before room with my furniture, pillows, & accessories. Maybe even a different paint color on the back wall only. The “after” room is too white and grey. I dislike the “after” furniture and the animal rug.

The rug, furniture, & accessories in the “before” have to go. I like the creamy wall color and dark wood floor though. Looks like they have nice views. The sofa in the “after” looks comfortable, but again, too much white and grey for me.

I like all of the before rooms better.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to paint a brick fireplace.  I just like the earthiness of brick....and wood.  I don't care for stark white walls or anything else.

The before rooms are cozier, not so sterile.

I only like the after in the first set of photos.  The white and update to fireplace make the room look bigger.

I like the white much better. It brightens up the room.

In the first set of pictures, it doesn't look like they painted the brick but re-faced the fireplace with a black material.  In that set I like the after picture if they left the beams wood tone.

For the remaining sets of pictures I agree the afters are too stark.

Re: Warm to White

[ Edited ]

I would never paint a fireplace black!  White is the only color I would consider painting brick.  In general I prefer the white.  In the second photo I prefer the "before" furniture, and in the third photo I before the "after" furniture.  I hate TV's over fireplaces.  It would be so uncomfortable to watch them.

Edited to say:  after reading @ninjawife 's response, I see that the black fireplace was refaced and not painted brick.

I like the before pictures in rooms 1 and 2.  I don't mind the after picture in room 3.

Maybe because it seems to be a smaller space so the white doesn't appear as stark.

I don't care for TV's mounted above a fireplace.  It seems like you'd have to crane your neck to watch them.

I prefer white walls - just not optic white.

As far as white furniture and carpets are concerned - I'm too messy for white.  My furiture is all black upholstery and my carpets are patterned except for living room which is solid fire-engine red.
