If you don't need to sit in the tub of water, you can get an extra long hand held shower unit at the big A so you can reach anywhere inside the enclosure.  

I bought one to wash my Doxie.  Great improvement!

You can get the soft rain attachment and an extra long hose and really pamper yourself without a tub!

I'm redoing a bathroom right now to add back a tub because I love a nice long soak occasionally.  I strongly considered a walk-in tub because I'm getting older and it's hard for me to get in and out of a soaking tub.  However, after much research and for reasons already stated by other posters, I decided to get a regular soaking tub with well placed grab bars.  If, later on, I can't access the tub using the grab bars, I will buy a bath lift insert.  I purchased one for my mother years ago and she loves it.  I think it's a better solution than a walk-in tub and is easily removed for cleaning or if no longer desired.

What exactly is a bath lift insert?

I wouldn't relish sitting in a tub of cold, dirty water waiting for it to drain. We have two bathtubs and want to convert one into a walk in shower.  We never use the tubs.
