WOULD YOU SUBTRACT THIS FROM THE ROOM?

Ever see a room, and there's only one thing-- but it's a fairly big thing -- that you don't like?

For me, it's the floor lamp-- does it look out of place to you?  Oversize, but not in a good way-- and the tilt of it, no, no.   But love the lacquered blue ceiling, ( like having blue sky above you, ahh), fireplace, curving shelves, plump pillows...

The glossy, two-tiered coffee table in burgundy is an unexpected touch, and they nicely pick up the color in other parts of the room--

Yep,  with the floor lamp out of the picture, I do like it better!

The room is a showcase for Studio McGee, their "Threshold" line, and I wonder if the lamp is one they make.  It kind of reminds me of a party guest who is perhaps tipsy, and looming and leaning in a bit too close, ha.

I agree that the lamp seems oversized, over-angled (is that a word?)  and out of sync with this rather classical quiet room.

Personally, I'd also get rid of that giant bundle of dried whatisit in the vase on the mantel. Unattractive dust collector. Smaller vase, softer look of flowers, even silk ones, are preferred as less of a distraction and will be gentle in the room.

Certainly the lamp has to go.  The fact that it is crooked or ****** eyed doubles the "wrongness" of the look.  However, the room would need lighting.  Perhaps, just table lamps.

Also, the bouquet on the mantle looks wrong to me....too much.  I am not a throw pillow person, but that is just me.

I love the blue ceiling.  My ceilings down south are painted blue, including the porches.

The floor lamp detracts from the room. I would take it out of there immediatedly. The room is pretty. I might try another end table with a lamp on it that is more scaled to the room.

I totally agree the lamp is an eyesore.

Re: WOULD YOU SUBTRACT THIS FROM THE ROOM?

@Oznell I'm with you and everyone else who has declared the lamp must go!

I also don't care for the mantle adornments.  I think the picture above the mantle seems to overwhelm it (perhaps it's the angle??) and I don't think anything else needs to be added. The flowers are a no; the tapers are too small, not particularly pretty and add nothing IMHO.

I've never seen a lacquered ceiling but the blue is very pretty. I really like everything else in the room, furniture, fabric, accessories.

Agree, would subtract that lamp from the room.  Would also replace the painting that is over the mantel with another painting.  Love the lacquered blue ceiling.

The lamp ruins it for me.
