Vacuum Cleaner Recomendations

My canister vacuum stopped working this past weekend. After speaking with the repair company today, I realized it would just be cheaper to buy a new one than have the old one fixed. Since it has been years since I've bought a vacuum, I need some help deciding what vacuum to purchase. I know I want a canister style so that is a given for me. But where do I start to find a new one? I looked on the Amazon and Sears websites and became overwhelmed with all the many choices. If you've purchased a canister vacuum in the last 1-2 years and love your vacuum, please let me know what you purchased and why you like it. Thanks so much for any insights you can give me.
