VICTORIAN LOVER'S KANSAS HOUSE

This won't be for everyone, but hey, I enjoy variety.

Krysta Meeker is one of those rare young women and do-it-yourselfers online, whose taste has been forged over time, and who ignores trends.  Loves dark wood, antiques, moody arrangements.  9Hope our "mistress of moody",  @GingerHead ,  is around!)

Her style is different than mine-- she's more "austere",  more monochrome, less 'eclectic cottage'. But I admire her achievement of her vision.

Her house was built in 1932.  They put several handsome rug runners together to make a long continuous one on the staircase, since they have a 5 year old.

Her style is interesting, since it leans Victorian, but tends to be pretty strictly neutral--  cream, rust, British tan, black, as in that handsome rug.  Oh, touches of deep bottle green too.  Her sumptuous, deep couch is a less expensive version of the comfy "Cloud" couch--

Love the serene, large landscape painting--

She has done all different things in the fireplace opening- not a real fireplace, but old mantel they salvaged-- but currently has old book pages and floating candles...

This tree is lovely, with its trailing ribbons and more faux candles. Those, and the deep palette, seem another tribute to Victorian Christmases...

Virtually everything in the dining room is vintage or antique.  They are renovating the kitchen, glimpsed through the door.

Love the simplicity of her buffet, the big brass lamp with black shade.

Her little touches are so nostalgic--  Christmas-y Dickens book under glass, old brass rocking horse, velvet ribbon tied planter....

She has a love for rocking horses, as a matter of fact, and found this one for her son's room--

The other wall of his room is in a bold, chocolate brown, and he has an antique bed.  Krysta said she wanted to create a room he could grow into--

The old map over the bed is of Winnie-the-Pooh's "100 Acre Wood"....

She made a little fantasy tent with pillows for him to read, relax or draw in...

(He does seem like one of the cutest little boys going, love the bow tie...)

The simple but festive front hall is inviting.  This is the sort of house that would be rewarding to tour.

While Victorian style is not my thing, I find this home quite charming  but perhaps "over the top" with Christmas trees.  Oh well, it's them who has to clean up and clear out and not me.

Another marvelous "find" @Oznell !

I normally do not care for dark wood but the walls are light and bright so I think this works beautifully.

Love the Christmas trees and decorations and also the dining room chandelier.

The ivory couch IS sumptuous (perfect word), I would love to have that in my house!

The artwork, rocking horse and her son's bedroom are wonderful. What a lovely little boy!

What a pretty home and family! While there is a bit of darkness and definitely a monochrome look, it is still calming, welcoming, and very classy. I like a lot of it. She does well pulling things together and carrying out her vision. I love the dining room.

@Oznell

This Victorian home is charming and very unusual.  I do so appreciate all the time and energy you put into finding places that we might normally might see.  You add so much here.

The ultimate Victorian, just for me, is in Hartford CT. The Mark Twain House, so often toured.  It is very lovely and includes stenciling on walls by Tiffany.  We usually remember him for his gorgeous stained glass.  Next door is the Harriet Beecher Stowe House.  Hartford is also home to the Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest public art museum in the country.

We live in a "woodsy" suburb, founded in the mid-1600s.  Very common for many towns located near the Connecticut River.

Just don't go off the beaten path too far in the summer, as we are noted for our bears.  We have an ordinance in our town requiring residents to keep our trash contained and prohibiting bird feeders during the warmer months.  They have been known to create some problems, like breaking into houses and such.  We live near two nature preserves, but do not see them bounding around much anymore.  If they wander into public places, they are tranquilized and relocated into deep woods.

Hope anyone passing through our area can enjoy our many attractions.  As we are "museum people" ourselves, I think we are planted in a quaint sweet spot. And you can walk down a street in Farmington past Ethel Walker School, where a young Jackie Kennedy attended.

Love her color palette and her Christmas decor, but not overly fond of her furniture and artwork.  I appreciate it, but I don't love it.

@Oznell

Mistress of Moody here, haha. I love it! Thanks for the call out! I think that needs to be my new nickname. You are so good at figuring out and remembering people's styles and I always enjoy your posts. So fun.

As for this house, she is a beauty!. I do love a Moody Victorian and this one is done and flows so well from room to room.

Stands outs for me include:

*The stair runner. I love   vintage-ie looking rugs

*The rich, dark wood floors

*That couch! I love a  cream colored deep, comfy couch/sectional.... One of my favorite saying is "your home should be a soft place to fall at the end of the day and that couch just brings that to mind....

*I like the idea of using a mantel to mimick a fireplace but I think I'd put a luminara or real candle garden in it.

*The vintage looking Santa and sleigh painting over the fireplace (I think I'm seeing that right?) is great...I love swapping out art to fit the different seasons.

*The floor to ceiling rich green velvet drapes in her son's room

*And probably my favorite thing is the rich chocolate brown wall in her son's room, gorgeous. I love that look and have seen a couple of black walled rooms I like but I don't think I've seen that dark brown used before.

I love her unique, all her own style. I love when people just go for it full force. You can tell they really love and enjoy their home....

As always, thanks for the lovely!
