Re: Using marble tile for showers?

@Mominohio  We just completed dh's bath remodel...ONYX for his shower, yes, expensive and very nice...my bathroom is the original fiberglass tub/shower.  It was the original harvest gold or yellow from the 70's!  We had it repainted/restored.  It looks so nice now.

The entire process took an entire day and then a short visit the next day.  I was not home, dh was so I am not sure what he did on the 2nd day.

It's a paint product and there were a lot of choices from solid to a 'speckle' look. The entire cost was $800.00...normally it's $700.00 but he had to travel an hour each way from the business to come to our town.  I am more than satisfied.  Our home would never see the return if both the baths had thousands spent on them....husband won with the nicer bath, but it's ok with me.  I don't like spending money on things if I don't have to.

I also use a squeege and then wipe completly with a towel , walls and glass . I use a flat mop for the floor and then a dry towel . I know this is extra work but well worth it as it was an expensive change .

We have very hard water.  I have found that water spots are difficult to remove from dark colored stone and mineral deposits also stain it with light spots.  Never again for me....

Re: Using marble tile for showers?

Our bathroom remodel done 12 years ago with ONYX, fabulous product, easy to maintain, beautiful but simple looks. Made in USA. Clean with Dawn and microfiber cloth every week or two. Squeegee after use. No hesitation to use again. They make lovely sink tops.

As pretty as they are, the only way I'm going for a 'glamor' shower is when I can afford to hire full-time help. I guess that means it's not likely to happen.

Just be careful on the floors as some materials are very slippery.

Re: Using marble tile for showers?

We put in pale gray ceramic 6x14” tile in the brick pattern (subway is now passé, I am told) in our shower and used ceramic, marble-look larger square tiles in the bathroom floor...white with gray veining. For the shower floor and ceiling, I splurged and used mosaic mother of pearl accented small tile...horribly expensive but since I needed so little, it wasn’t much and really makes the whole shower look amazing. I would stay away from travertine; it has been overdone and is drab.
