Re: Upscale Rustic Holiday Table Setting...

I've often seen these tree trunk cross-sections used as chargers.  Not an original idea.  I don't care for it.  For one thing, it's unsanitary since they can't be washed.  How do you know a dog didn't lift his leg on the tree right before it was cut?

For me, it is a sensory issue. I don't want my hands touching something rough like the wood or the piece of wood being so thick to make the plate higher. But its a very "natural" looking idea.

Detachment isn't the absence of love but the ability to take care of yourself in the midst of someone else's choices.

@steviebI don't like the chargers either. Other than that, it's nice.

That is different. Might consider it for an elaborate barn raising.

@stevieb    So give us an opinion; what do YOU think of it?

If I were celebrating Christmas in a rustic setting, I think this is charming.  I see treated slabs of wood for sale even in our local Home Goods store, so I would assume the wood is treated.

Very pretty.  I've always loved the mix of "high-low",  rough/smooth, refined/homespun.  The sophistication of silver candelsticks, white tapers, ruffle-edge china, contrasted with natural, organic, rough-textured woods, is a great combo.

I find it both earthy and ethereal, @stevieb

(I doubt they are selling untreated round slabs for home use. Anyone who's worked with crafts knows such things need to be heated in an oven, at minimum.)
