Re: Updating A Tired Room With Color

Is this the supposed update? The room appears a bit unfinished to me.

It looks like a cozy room. It would work for a less formal room, like sunroom or den. It's not my particular style, but it's a pretty room.

Re: Updating A Tired Room With Color

I'm wondering if the update was painting the bookcase?? It would in my opinion have been better to paint the room that color & leave the trim & bookcase white/cream/whatever they have--if those are the colors they chose. That would have been much more of a dramatic "update" and definitely would revitalize this room which I feel is a bare empty cavern as it stands. They tried, but maybe for them this was super bold to paint the bookcase? Who knows??

I like the floor and the ceiling fans-the rest can go!

On my screen the fireplace is a peach color sort of and the yellow looks awful with it.  I would approve of a light coral color so it doesn't fight with the brick.

And those little light blue things don't look good on the hearth--they are too pale and delicate.  I'd add a big rug and some navy accents too.  Something to hold the furniture down!

Is there a second picture coming, @jubilant?

Giving the console the best view of the fireplace doesn't make sense to me.

ETA: Is that a rolled-up rug next to the chair?

Erin Napier did the remake. She does mix colors quite a lot.

Here is how they described it:

After: Into the Blue

What a difference a shade makes! Erin used powder-blue paint to give the shelving a hint of glamour, then carried that color through the room with accessories. Walnut-toned flooring provides much-needed contrast with pale upholstered pieces and a new area rug.
