@Ainhisg wrote:In 2013, we bought a cheap Roper brand dryer from Lowe's. Talk about no frills! It was $299 and is still going strong. If it dies, I will buy another one just like it if it is available. ETA: just checked, and it appears this Amana is the same thing as the Roper--looks just like it. And it is a bit more in 2021. lol I would still get it.
Hope I do not jinx myself, but my no frills, Kenmore washer and dryer are over 20 years old. I do not need huge appliances.Simple is good for me. And cannot have them large like they make them nowadays. We would have to change our door from the garage into the untility room if I got one of the big ones they make. Sure hope they continue making smaller appliances in case my 2 fizzle out. Way too many frills on appliances now.

I've had good luck with my Lg washer and dryer. Bought both in 2012.

I think Simple with no frills is best. I have a Washer and Dryer from Whirlpool that next year will be 20 years old. (Knock on Wood) I have had one problem years ago with the Washer. I have AHS Insurance, so they came out, I paid the deductable and it was fixed.
The machines nowadays have too much going on for me. I just want to wash and dry my clothes not launch the machine into outer space.

My 4 year old Whirlpool washer started leaking water 2 weeks ago; still runs fine and washes the clothes fine, just leaks water from underneath.
My husband insisted I go buy another washer; I bought the GE model the store had in stock.
New washer is being delivered tomorrow; old washer is going to the basement to join my 20+ year old Amana washer (best washer I've ever owned) that also leaks and has a bad bearing in the motor. My washer hookup is near a drain, so both washers can leak all they want and not be a problem.
I don't even bother with our local repairmen since the two I trusted for years passed away.

Believe me I would never buy anything with Sam"suck" aka Samsung -- my refrigerator is a true nightmare at 4 years old. I just filed as part as a class action suit for this piece of junk😡😡😡. So frustrated...
But, thank you for the recommendations. I selected a no frills GE because 1) was under $700 and 2) in stock.
🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻 this isn't a 🍋🍋🍋.
Our salesperson was totally ready to "guide" us to the upper $$ models but I said, "I know what I want, just write it up!" -- he said "OK you sure..."
Easiest commission he's probably made🙂

@homedecor1 I remember when all the dryers were $300-400 and they lasted 25 years. Now all the parts are made of plastic, just like the new AC units. I feel bad for your recent luck with these appliances, if it's any consolation just know the rest of us with old appliances, soon in need of new ones will be right there behind you.
I 100% agree not to buy any new appliances with all the bells and whistles!! Just the most basic, when it bites the dust, just haul in another basic one. I wish you much better luck with this GE. I hope your husband is feeling better too.

I feel for you with the bad luck on your dryer. I found out the hard way also Maytag is not the best of brands. My previous neighbor highly recommended it. I couldn't wait to get rid of both appliances!
I had Speed Queen many years prior & decided to replace with them again. So far after a few years, no problems .. but I wouldn't expect any from any brand for this amount of time. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed they last as long as my old ones did.
Overall, I think many appliances, computers, etc. are made to fail sooner than before to keep us buying.
I wish you good luck on your replacement dryer.

@homedecor1 check to see if there is a recall on that model. Go to Consumer Product Safety Comission website to check.
If anything you remove looks burnt, get photographs and even written description of part from repair person and submit information to the CPSC. Keep repair receipt in case there is a later recall.
