My precious Daddy (who was a true Southern gentleman with Irish roots) always believed that you must have your tree down before the new year so that you would not bring any of the bad luck from the year before into the new year. Don't know where that came from, but, we always had a bonfire on New Years eve with the Christmas tree.
Well, Daddy would be proud. My DH have struggled all day trying to get out tree down and decorations put up. I think next year, if we have good enough luck, we will hire someone to help us do that.
Granddaughter or not, we just can't do the decorating and putting up anymore.
