What do you think?

I don’t really like the before or the after. Neither design style or furnishings appeal to me. The wood floor is pretty.

Seems like quite a drastic change in style. Makes me wonder if someone bought the home with all the furnishings included and then changed everything.

I'll take the 2nd photo with the modern furniture.  Looks great.

What a difference! While the 2nd photo looks very "cool", it's not my taste. I know some who would love it, though. The 1st photo is just sad!

I could easily live with #2.

I like the 2nd modern room. I am not really crazy about modern but this room can be warmed up with a leafy green tree and plants. I would change the pillows to a solid brighter color..maybe blue.

I don't care for the Before at all.

The After is more appealing to me, althought it's not particularly my style.

Fascinating contrast you found for us, @wilma !   Their interpretation of "traditional" was so blah and uninspired, that any transformation would be a step up!

Even though I tend to like eclectic rooms that have both vintage and modern, I think with this modern, they achieved quite a "wow".   Great textures, with that wood-slatted wall behind the TV, and the sleek, smooth steel fireplace embedded in the dramatic charcoal painted wall.

Even the stairs got a chic, contemporary treatment.  What I like about this room, is, it avoids the usual knock on modern-- that modern always has to be "cold".   I don't find this cold.  To me, it's both comfortable looking, and visually interesting.

I like the horse,  the Barcelona chair,  even the geometric black and white pillows (in this context).   Good job.

In the Before picture, who would keep all the unsightly boxes just sitting

around?

With a nicer couch, pretty rug and getting rid of the oversized round table

it wouldn't be too bad.

The 1st photo is sad and it doesn't help with all of those boxes shown either. The 2nd photo is much better, and although I am not a fan of Modern, it is quite nice, it needs to be warmed up a bit for me, but a very nice room nonetheless. I would definitely opt for a different type chair however!

@wilma  I like that second picture.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!
