Re: Traditional Furnishings with Modern Art

Although I often love the mix of abstract art with traditional and classical rooms, I also find this to be missing the mark, @wilma

The harsh, bright painting just, in this case, brings out the slight "fussiness" and conventionality of the room.  Agree with @aroc3435 ,  not a good mix!

I'm thinking that, sitting there, in person, it might be a bit refreshing to gaze at that painting.

In the photo, no.  But in person, I think that I'd like it.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I agree with you, the art work and furniture just do NOT work together.....And the whole living sitting area is set up oddly the way the couch and love seat and chairs are positioned....

Aside from that art, I do love the light & brightness of the room.  Very cheery & comfortable looking.

I'd get rid of that art, drapes, chandeliers & glass tables.

I love this room!  It is exactly what I would go for!  I like the furniture, the colors, the light, and the art.  I don't think it is overly traditional to begin with either.

Traditional?  How about classic?

I agree.  Give me traditional over modern any day!

Re: Traditional Furnishings with Modern Art

The whole ensemble is pleasant, but it's a mixed bag. There are the pictures, then there is the fireplace, then there is the glass coffee table, then there is all that bland beige-y stuff, and the rest of it. Is this a public place? Imagine what this photo would look like if the two coral bouquets were not there.

Re: Traditional Furnishings with Modern Art

@wilma  The rooms are beautiful, but I'm not a fan of the artwork either. I'm just not a fan of modern art, or modern decor.

My favorite was the picture of a small living room (I *think* you posted it,) sofa was cream colored, nice over-stuffed chair and ottoman, both with some small burgundy pillows, and a small built-in bookcase, and lots of nice accessories. It was so warm and cozy, you just wanted to curl up on the sofa and read a book. I would be very happy to move to a small house that I could decorate each room like that. Maybe someday. <sigh>

Thank you for posting all the pictures! Love seeing decor.

What do you think?

I think it looks odd to have modern abstract art with such traditional furnishings. The paintings really contast with the rest of the room. I prefer art that complements not competes.  Notice the book on the table in the left foreground that has the same colors as the paintings. Very contrived IMO.

Actually, the layout of the furnishings (sans the artwork) reminds me of the hospice home my fil was in prior to his death. Specfically two seating areas/fireplaces adjacent to one another for semi-private family gatherings.
