I just purchased a La-Z-Boy recliner from a furniture store.  I ordered it on the phone since the store is a long drive from our home.  I was shocked to see that the wood is OSB wood and not real hardwood when it was delivered.  This recliner has a toxic odor and it comes from the wood.  OSB wood can contain all sorts of glues to include highly toxic formaldehyde releasing glue.  These recliners are expensive and the fact that they use OSB wood is disgusting.  I also could not find any information on the La-Z-Boy website about the OSB wood and what kind of glue was used.  Trusting I would receive a safe product from a well known American company I had no concerns ordering this chair.  Stand corrected.

Re: Toxic odor from La-Z-Boy

My niece recently received a new sofa from a Philadelphia furniture store.  Don't know the brand, but she didn't have it long before it was discovered the "wood" frame was cracked.  Wondering if it could have been your OSB wood?  Last I heard she was cooling her heels waiting for someone from the store to inspect it.  Sounds like part of the campaign to cheapen America.

Is OSB supposed to be better than chipboard and other kinds of engineered wood?

@TW  A friend of mine ordered two Laz-boy recliners several years ago, and she said they smelled awful.  She had to keep her windows and doors open for a week or so before the oder went away.

Those are the best ones.  My other furniture is over 20 years old.  I have no plans on changing it.  Hubby will get a new hip and needed a new recliner to sleep in for a few days.  He says it's comfortable.  Just wish the odor would go away.  I had my windows open since I got it nd it still stinks.

According to 'Wiki' it's hardwood chips, pieces, glued together with more or less toxic glues or resins.  So who knows what's in that stuff.

That's a shame.  I'm sitting in my La-Z-Boy right now.  We bought a couch and two recliners about four years ago.  Ours have solid wood frames and there was no odor at all.

Hope you get it sorted.

According to La-Z-Boy they use OSB because it's tougher.  Although their website does not explain what glues were used in the OSB and they mention some California standard that it meets.  I am worried that thanks to COVID all checks and balances have gone out the window and who knows who checks compliance to these standards now?  It seems quality and safety have gone way down while prices have skyrocketed.  They count on the stupid consumer to still buy all this.  Although my sister lives in Germany and recenlty ordered furniture and had the same 'stink' problem.  She returned her furniture after months long battles.  She and her husband got sick from the 'off gasing'. After that she got furniture that is OEKO-Tex certified, meaning it's inspected for toxicity.
