Re: Top-Rated dishwasher by Consumer Reports

I have a 1984, builder's model GE and it's the best dishwasher I've ever owned. It isn't so quiet but it gets the dishes really clean, even the dried on stuff. They're bone dry too.

Re: Top-Rated dishwasher by Consumer Reports

We just bought a new dishwasher a couple of months ago.  It was an unplanned purchase, but it didn't make financial sense to repair the old one.  Still, we wanted something that wouldn't break the bank since we were already committed in a kitchen update and spending a lot of money on a new countertop, wall tiles, etc.  We ended up buying a Whirlpool with stainless steel tub from Home Depot.  We shopped around and once we decided on this one, I went through Ebates and ordered from Home Depot.  They had free home delivery.  My DH did the installation.  It has the tall tub design, silverware basket on the door, cleans everything very well, and is so quiet you can't even tell it's running.  If you decide to order, be sure to get the installation kit that goes with it because you may not be able to use your old water supply line, power cord, connectors, etc.

We had a Kenmore Elite. Yes, it washed dishes beautifully (not very quietly though).

When the control panel melted down for the third time, we decided that maybe it was time for a different dishwasher. Before the thing caught on fire once and for  all.

We still haven't bought a new dishwasher and we've been washing dishes by hand now for a good two months or so. Still looking for a good dishwasher and I honestly don't know what to buy.

Sear's repair service is less than stellar....and that's putting it mildly. I won't go into a lot of detail, but very much less than stellar. Our Dyson vacuum was returned to us in worse shape than it was when we took it to Sears.

Would I recommend a Kenmore Elite? Nope....unless you want your control panel to turn into melted plastic. And I wouldn't recommend Sears' service department either.
