Top-Rated dishwasher by Consumer Reports

Check out the Kenmore Elite 12793 one of the top-rated by Consumer Reports and one of the quietest.

Re: Top-Rated dishwasher by Consumer Reports

This is a Whirlpool, branded by Kenmore. I saw the price at over 1100 dollars. That seems extraordinarily high, when a Bosche at Lowes is $700 or thereabouts.

I will say, it's beautiful.

The warranty on it is sold separately. Who provides the warranty? If it's a Sears-owned company, Sears is in poor condition as a company. If they decide to fold up, who will carry the warranty? Those who opt for it may find it's worthless.

The low priced alternative happens to be one I own. Maytag MDB7749SA

It's half the price. It works well and it's relatively quiet, although not 39 DB. I will say there is a disadvantage to very low noise--you can't tell if it's running at all.

It does look nice but, I didn't have a good experience with my last Kenmore dishwasher. No one but Sears can work on it and I wasn't impressed with their Repairmen. Takes forever to get them to come out.

I got rid of it and bought another brand...still running 10 yrs later and no problems.

If Sears goes out of business the service division will live on. It is profitable. BTW they also own A&E. They service Lowe's and Home Depot as well as many others. My husband is recently retired as a Sears refrigeration tech.

I won't go into details, but we will NEVER buy anything from Sears again.  EVER!

Re: Top-Rated dishwasher by Consumer Reports

I keep hoping they'll recognize me as the best dishwasher, but no. They keep giving it to some dumb machine instead. I'm very quiet washing dishes, only humming or singing quietly. I almost never break a dish, and I never leave any food residue behind. When I dry dishes there's no haze or film left behind. Frankly I think the whole competition is rigged. There's definitely an anti-human bias to the judging. I think I may just withdraw my name from future consideration.

That's hilarious, gardenman!  I'm sure I would hire you in a heartbeat.  Our dishwasher is probably 25 years old, noisy as heck, doesn't accomodate large dishes, and soon after we bought the house, replete with old appliances, the bottom "flywheel" blew off.  It used to sit over the bottom rack and I guess disbursed water around inside the unit.  Maybe I need to go back to hand-washing. Simply to get a new one requires a plumbing retrofit.  I can't justify the hassle.

The last "Top Rated Consumer Reports" appliance I bought  (also a Kenmore) was the WORSE appliance I have ever purchased.  Stopped working after about 4 months and repairing it was a problem because so many thousand of them all had the same problem so they ran out of parts nationally.

Live and learn.

If you cannot get Gardenman for a house call, I do recommend the Kenmore Elite as an alternative.  I have one and have not had a moment's problem with it.  It runs so quietly you cannot tell it's on and our dishes shine.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

Re: Top-Rated dishwasher by Consumer Reports

I don't have the Elite, but I do have a  "lesser" Kenmore which I bought to replace a 16-year-old builder's model of something (I have no remembrance of that brand.)  Anyway, so far, so good after 4.5 years.

I like Gardenman's dishwashing idea and I'd like it more if I had one of those in my own kitchen.  I bought that new machine mostly because I had thought I might want to sell my condo and knew I had to have one, but I actually use it even when I'm there alone.  It's extremely quiet which is imporant in a smallish greatroom so that I can watch TV or chat while it's running.  Couldn't really with my old one.

Price?    Doesn't matter, but I do remember shopping a number of places including Lowe's and Home Depot, so I know it somehow was less than theirs.  That's how I float.
