@on the bay. I was going to say, why is it not a four season porch or room?

I found this info on why it is called a three-season room

"A three season room is designed for use in spring, summer and fall but cannot be utilized in the winter due to the fact that it is not connected to your home's HVAC system which prevents its temperature from being regulated."

Years back, we added a three season porch to our home.  Not nearly as grand or huge like these examples, but it does have a cathedral ceiling.  My DH designed our porch.  It would have cost much more to make it a four season room, so we ditched that thought.  We found a contractor who worked for a fair price and took pride in his work.

It was something we did when our children were educated and on their own.  We absolutely love our porch and added a floor model AC unit so we can enjoy during hot weather.  One of the many reasons we are living in our family home well up in our golden years.

I would take any of them but the 4th room is my favorite.

Just thought I would help to clarify the difference between three season and four season rooms.

A three season room requires less insulation, less expensive windows, and no heating or AC built in.  Because of this, it is certainly less expensive to build, and in our community does not qualify as a room per se, which saves on our taxes.

We love where we are living, both our town and state, and moved here for the excellent school system, etc.  But it is not a cheap place to live, and we have been blessed to be able to live here.  Some from other parts of the country would be shocked to see what we pay for taxes.

Growing up, the family across the street had such a room, though it was heated and cooled. I always liked it. They actually used it as a bedroom for one of their kids, which always seemed sort of a shame, though it did make a cool bedroom. My only thought, its not quite a 'sunroom' and it's not a screened in porch, so not sure of how it would be used. As for me, I'd ensure the windows would have screens so they could all be opened when I wanted them open, otherwise, to me, it is more or less a sunroom.

ours is a 4 season because we had it built to enjoy it year around here in our 4 season state     ac in the warm months heat in the freezing months

ours looks nothing like this one because we had in built for practicality of our lives not for it's appearance in magazine

They're all gorgeous, but my faves would be the 1st and 4th pics ♥

The only one I'd even remotely call a porch is the fourth one.  These are all rooms, not porches, IMO.  In some places, like the U.K., they'd be called conservatories.
