Re: Those of you with TALL lanterns, a ?

Insider says TSV lantern will be offered in 4 sizes, 12" for $39, 16" for $44, 19" for $59, and 25" for $74.  Advance order available now with 4 easy pays.  When looking at the photos, I like the smallest lantern best because the candle fills most of the inside space.  But the taller lanterns do have taller candles, so they look very nice too.  12" lantern has a 4" candle.  16" lantern has a 5" candle.  19" lantern has a 7" candle, and 25" lantern has a 9" candle.  Hope that helps everyone decide.  The 16" in slate is on the way to me , and I have the 12" slate on advance order.  The new color looks so pretty -- don't really care if it's more gray or more blue-- seems like it would blend with any spring/summer decor.  I will post again with color description as soon as my lantern arrives.

Wow, thanks for all that info! I don't have the Insider so I just get my info from what's posted on here. Will be anxious to hear your review.

I don't like the look of a short candle and a tall lantern.  That was one of the reasons I didn't buy the luminara TSV last year.  I prefer to buy the candle and lantern separately.

It isn't that I don't like the Luminara lanterns, they have a real streamlined and clean look, and to me, they cross over many decor styles (all reasons why Q picks this style, I'm sure), and I can see them in several places in my home.

But I haven't ordered them for two reasons. First the cost, just too much for what they are. I have put together very nice lanterns (that I like as much or more) for much less, and I can choose what goes in them as the candle isn't attached.

Second, we shouldn't have to jury rig the candles to raise the height because they didn't put a tall enough candle in the bigger sizes. For the price, the candle should be taller and fill the space correctly. If I wanted to piecemeal it together, I can do it much for much less expense.

I will be watching with interest, and I will be tempted because these would look so good on my front porch, but I won't be buying.

Hope everyone who wants them gets them, and I hope that new color is what everyone is expecting or hoping for.

@country gal

Your question brings me back to something I found in an old box yesterday.  It was a wedding gift, which included a candle pedestal, wreath and my favorite candle (an 8" that I burned only once a week. It lasted for year.

I wish I'd see more pedestals, as I have a lantern that would benefit from a pedestal, but a different color than the avocado green one I received way back when.

Re: Those of you with TALL lanterns, a ?

If anyone's interested, there is a post on another thread saying BB & B store has a Luminara churchill lantern on sale for $29.99.  Available in black or cream, and I think it's about 16".  My BB & B is sold out, but it's available online if you don't mind not being able to use the in-store 20% discount coupon.

@CJC, I'm so glad you posted all the details here.  I was about to attempt it, but I'm very tired, so I just knew I'd mess it all up.  Whew.

I'm in agreement with you. I like the 12" lantern best (I think) because of how the candle better fills the space, and it's kind of a stocky-looking lantern.  If I get one at all, it will be that one.

Re: Those of you with TALL lanterns, a ?

@country gal, I do remember some comments last time about the candles vs lanterns being a little odd in proportion, and I agreed with most of those opinions.  I don't think any were terrible looking, but I know what you mean.

Just my 2 cents:  If I were to order a TSV lantern, it would be with no intention of having to remove the candle and replace it with another, or raise it on a pedestal, unless I already owned the perfect Luminara candle to put inside it.  To me, these lanterns are not priced low enough to justify having to go on the hunt for and spending more money on the right sized candle, pedestal, etc.  I do like them, though, even though I think they're more clean and streamlined (like @Mominohio said) than my usual taste in lanterns.  They were highly praised last time, though, so I think in most cases they were good quality lanterns.

This is my experience with tall lanterns.  I know I've mentioned this lantern before, so bear with me.  I have two of these outside in different places.  They are 27" tall x 10-1/4" wide.  I used a 7" Luminara outdoor candle in each one--that's the largest I own.  I thought it needed to be taller (also a bit wider, but that cannot be helped), so in one I added a 2" thick square block of wood that takes up the entire inside of the lantern base.  That worked great.  In the other, I ended up using a very old , crackled ceramic sugar bowl that is shaped sort of like an urn, missing its lid, and the candle sits on top of it.  I put some rocks around the base of the bowl as a sort of filler.  The style of these lanterns is so rustic that I could get away with using these old and random finds, but I think anything could be used to give a candle a little more height.

This is a lantern that I got from P1 awhile ago.  I love it as I can use it as is or adorn it with greens, ornaments, etc.  It was on sale.  Good place to check out the lanterns, lots of styles to choose from.

@lucymo

Now that is a lantern!

This is more along the lines of many that I own.  And this is absolutely stunning.

I prefer a lantern like this with a little more brick brack and curves!
