Looks like a queen or king size mattress. Maybe, handy for stayovers if you don't have enough guestrooms; although, I suspect that's not the reason for plopping this into the center of the room. It's a little low for sitting on or placing drinks. Yes, a bit large for an ottoman.

A better idea for large rooms is to cluster furniture rather than placing it against the walls ending up with a lot of empty space in the center.

Can't imagine this in someone's home.

hmmm .. doesn't look like an ottoman to me. Looks more like an oversized cot to just lie down on. The colors look good esp. the "bluish" pop of colors from the pillows & wall art.
