I worry about things being stolen too. We had a buddha statue stolen. I wonder what people do who have bliss lights , they are 150.00, and would be easy to take!

We can't keep anything out in the front yard. A few years ago our Christmas Decorations were stolen. The next day I replaced them. Would you believe the deliquent kids came back to try and take them again the next night?!!! DH happened to be watching our security cameras at the time and told me to run out the front door which wound up spooking them off. They had ripped out our decorations again...staked stuff like candy canes and such...NUTS!!! Talk about being 'bold as brass'. The only thing that remotely made me feel better at the time (when I had to accept the fact that I had to bring everything inside and couldn't decorate outside anymore) was knowing it was just a matter of time that they will get caught doing something to somebody/something.

Unfortunately we couldn't get them arrested...they wore hoods and couldn't be ID'd...GRRRRR.

So absolutely nothing other than a couple of chairs and an old table is all we keep out on our porch. As for our Bliss lights, we use our green one in our 'fenced in-locked' backyard and enjoy them while sitting on the patio.

Beautiful!

I also love the front porches in the Pottery Barn fall and holiday catalogs.

I have never tried something quite like that. I've done bits and pieces of it, but I would need to buy more items to make it as nice.

Get a motion light for your porch; it will come on if the hoodlums come back to steal your stuff and they think you are at the door.....haven't had any problems with my decorations...but then we are a right-to-carry state....

We live in a ""stop!...or I'll yell stop again"" state

It would take $1,000 to decorate a porch like that.

the trick is to buy everything at discount/clearance when the season is over!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup} i NEVER buy anything full price if i can help it for seasonal decor. i always wait until they start marking things down and then put it away for next year. and with the way the stores move from one holiday/season to the next you don't have to wait long.

i have a nice size front porch - it was a "must have" when we starting looking for a house - but i don't decorate to that extent! it is just too hot here in the south this time of the year to be outside doing that. i do a wreath and decorate my large planters on each side of the door and that is it.

I think it is great but half needs to be taken away. All the parts look good, but taken as a whole, it's overdone.

Re: The Frontporch in Home and garden.

I do something a lot like this. We don't have many problems with theft. I have more problems when I decorate with real pumpkins because squirrels like to chomp on them!! On the artificial pumpkins it is usually possible to use small but strong wire to attach them to posts, chairs, railings, whatever you have, to keep them secure.

I am lucky enough to also have a side porch that is screened in that we practically live in until it gets too cold. Since it is off my living room and has doors and windows from the house to the porch I decorate there too. I know it is only a screen but apparently that is enough to keep people from thinking that they can steal from there. But where I live is very safe. As I said we have more problems with squirrels and coons then people.

I wouldn't put this much on the porch so close together. We do have a large front entry so I can put a lot there but this close together is for marketing, not safety. I can just imagine kids trick or treating with their huge costumes would be falling all over the place. I would also worry about some of my elderly friends too.

One way to save money and not have it cost $1000 is to shop the sales. I wouldn't use all QVC items. I have, however, scoured the stores and over the years accumulated things over the years. After the holiday/season is a great time to get these kinds of items.
