I have been watching this satirical show on DIY, I fast forward some but overall it is fun to be reminded of what was 80's decor. Unfortunately I still have some (from 87 when I got married and started to watch hgtv). Matt and Sherry are in most of the clips, they even make fun of the dress of the hosts. (Pleats, shoulder pads, bold color and prints and lots of geometric, and the hair styles). One of the design elements was to have a designated computer room. I still have my computer cabinet without a computer in it. Art deco, santa fe,  huge furniture, stuffed valances, long puddling curtains, swags, silk plants, garden sculptures,  faux painting, neon lights to name some.

I would just love to find a time machine to go back to the 80's and stay there (and bring my DH of coarse)...

I still love the Liz Claiborne clothes and Marimekko prints from the 1980's...and the music!

Ah, yes. Even the big shoulders. I did my best to avoid them.

Those outfits are all gorgeous.  I loved 80s clothes.  The wide shoulders, the blousoned tops, the narrow hip (in comparison to the shoulders), the big hair.  One of the few things I didn't like was the poufy bangs with the rest of the hair not poufy.

I still own a silk bomber-style jacket in black with small white dots and a collar, cuffs, and lower band in a knit material.  Very cool.  The shoulders are pretty extreme or I would still be wearing it.  Maybe I'll take those iin some day.

As to decor, some of that was pretty cool also.  Anything well done is still well done, whether it's old or new.  If it's cheap and shoddy and outdated, that's one thing.  But if it's quality and just an earlier style (like the neon room below), that's completely different.

Ugh! Let the 80's go!!! It was fun in the 80's but styles are sooooo much better now! What on earth were we thinking back then?

I like a lot of the 80's home furnishings and the fashions except for the huge shoulder pads.  I never felt comfortable with those pads and I took them out and removed about half of the padding and put the other back.  The garment was cut to include them so you had to keep some of the padding.  We all looked like football players.  lol
