I keep Goo Gone for this.

 

Be careful of things like acetone on plastics or paint.  That will really give something to cry about.  Ask me how I know.......

WD40 will work and usually people already have it around the house.

I learned this trick from a sales clerk.  Use more tape and "blot" the stuck on tape residue, preferably with the same type of tape you used.  When in doubt, I use duct tape.

Takes some time, but gets the goop off. 

Goo gone is also wonderful. Best of luck.
