I have had success with rubbing a smear of Dawn dishwashing soap on the goo.  Let sit for a minute after rubbing in.  Should come off without a mess.

Another vote for Goo Gone! Denatured alcohol typically works, too!

Thanks everyone! I should have thought of Goo Gone. Geez (facepalm). I'll try the peanut butter tonight and if it doesn't work, I'll pick up some Goo Gone tomorrow.

@FiddleDeeDee  Agree with the Goo Gone. If you don't have that, try a little rubbing alcohol.

Would these suggestions work on gorilla tape residue on a metal front door?? I hope so. Woman Frustrated

I always have success with cooking oil, soy, olive, etc.  Spread it on lightly, let it soak, rub off and get residue with Magic Eraser pad.

@FiddleDeeDee   I learned from Martha Steward that vegetable or olive oil will dissolve the sticky residue.  Just make sure it's not going to stain the surface, but when I purchase dishes or other similar things with price stickers, it works every time.
