Just discovered this architect, D. Stanley Dixon. Does beautiful work. Here are two examples, one in the city, and one in the country.
Atlanta, Georgia. This one is reminiscent of a rambling old manor house across the pond. Love all the details, esp. that stone trim above the second story window on the right-- the trim indent makes it look like a castle battlement!
All the stone work is stunning to look at--
A peek inside, at the vast, but warm, charming living room-
Dining room's graceful antique chandelier is a dream...
Can't get over the meticulous craftsmanship.
And here's a house below that he did in Highlands, North Carolina, a beautiful part of the state that always reminds me of our much-missed @ECBG.
More stone! Stanley Dixon makes these houses look like they were built in another century. Wait till you see the views!
Inside, the living room is a little more 'rustic', ( if you can even call it that), appropriate to the mountain location. But "elegant-rustic", wouldn't you say?
Love the kitchen and hallway--
The dining room goes more formal, but still airy and comfortable.
And the views from the house are heart-stopping.
This terrace seems to float effortlessly on an endless sea of densely-forested, receding hills. The air is crystalline. I remember views like this from visiting Highlands. Shatteringly beautiful and peaceful.
Love the fact that architects like Dixon are finding skilled artisans capable of producing houses like these.

I don't care for the first Grand House. It is just too much for me.
I love the North Carolina house...I love everything about it.

Both homes are lovely but I prefer the first house! The stone work is stunning and the interior very appealing, love the drapes, windows, dining room and chandelier. I also love the space of the living room although I am not a fan of the furnishings, not a warm feeling .

I like them both. The structures and the furnishings are lovely.

Wow, both are architecturally stunning! But I prefer the second, it's more our style.

Beautiful! Just stunning! The Great Room, and dining area colors are just gorgeous, to me anyway. Soothing, understated. The outside view from the patio reminds me so much of the view from the Hearst Castle in San Simeon. The range looks like some of the San Simeon Mountain range. Of course the drive from parking to property is so high, takes about 40 mins, upward, you get nose bleed. I got car sick, don't think I could take the ride up there anymore.

They are both stunningly gorgeous, each in its own way. I love the first if I ever could have my druthhers..I druther have it and all the pomp and circumstance that came with that kind of lifestyle (for a while) but for me, the second house in North Carolina is really my cuppa java.

Both houses are wonderful, but I prefer the first one. I love the stonework. I also love the warm monochromatic feel of the living room in the first house. It looks like such a comfortable, relaxing place to soak in the beauty without matching the formality of the exterior structure.
