I second what Sooner wrote above. In addition, I'm not a fan of the side splash and I would have an actual island ...same function as the work table but has more storage and I prefer the look of an island far more.

Re: TRADITIONAL KITCHEN

[ Edited ]

Edited to ALERT-- this post was meant for another thread!  Sorry to all for the confusion.

@stevieb ,  good point, I agree about the floor-- even though I'm sort of torn.  On the one hand, I understand, with her aesthetic, going for that bare and polished, ebony look.  But for coziness, a rug can't be beat.

She could go a number of ways.  Underplay and cut against the glamour, with something neutral or sisal-y.  Or, for this room, I could see one of those Chinese Art Deco rugs from the Twenties in her palette--

Or at least choose something with a little plushness. She'd still have that beautiful dark wood all around the edges...

Edited to add-  @stevieb  I haven't com-PLETELY lost my mind-- I was trying to answer your post in the globe trotter thread, here in the kitchen one...   Am drinking Starbucks, but must need a shot or too of espresso, ha.

I agree that the angle of the photo is making the stove appear more off center than it may be. The thing that would bug me is that the sink is not flush with the cabinets.

@persiflage and @VanSleepy ,  I tend to agree with your assessments.  The mis-alignment to me is not so much that the hood isn't centered-- it's that the bottom of the hood seems not to be wide enough ( or something).  Am thinking it should go right over to the window trim on each side, it would be a "neater" look. But the flare of the hood, top to bottom, might make that problematic...

The angle of the photo shot is what perhaps is making it seem not centered.

Edited to add-- Oh, and @DREAMON ,  you were making my point better than I did!

Woman Very Happy No problem @Oznell  I knew what the reference was to and yes, even an area rug just to ground the space and break it up a bit would do the job!

I think the black stove is awful.  I would have chosen stainless or a light tone to go with the cabinets, ditched the pot filler and put the hood all he way across behind the cabinets.

I would also have put a center island to match the cabinets.  Then things wouldn't have stuck out like a sore thumb.  Or a least gotten a good cabinet maker to make the stove be placed in the center of the opening.  A real cabine maker and a stone finisher could have made it happen.

It is an attractive room, and as someone said, I wouldn't mind doing dishes there. My complaint is that the room doesn't look like a kitchen to me. With those large windows on two sides, I'm reminded of another room, maybe a dining room, or a sunroom, that became the kitchen after a remodel.

@Oznell ...........I think its the camera angle the camera is off to the left, so it will show things out of sync.

I do like the windows, but this kitchen is mostly a miss for me.

I don't care for the black stove, the floor, or the light above the sink, or the plants.....I do like the gold fixtures and the huge sink-not sure about the center table-would prefer an Island, I dont care for backsplash either too cold for me.......
