Re: THE ANN AND GORDON GETTY AUCTION

So true about charities, @skatting44 --  always important to carefully vet them to make sure money goes where it counts!

Those wreaths were ravishing, @Harpa .   One thing that I find enviable about lives like this, is their constant access to gorgeous fresh flowers, even exotic blooms, in mad profusion-- being able to have them everywhere, daily, brightening up interiors and bringing their heavenly scent.

Not on my budget, but so dreamy!

That's exactly what I would indulge in @Oznell  - fresh bouquets in profusion!! (If ever we hit the mother load!) Smiley Happy

Re: THE ANN AND GORDON GETTY AUCTION

Hers is not an overall look I'd choose, especially given my rather pedestrian living arrangment in comparison to hers Smiley Wink but I can still appreciate the magnificence. I'd add that while the overall look might not be my choice, some of those elements and objects, oh my. Not sure I'd have wanted to walk through, as the presence of so many beautiful things out of my reach might have been too much! Smiley Very Happy

@Oznell

In mentioning fresh flowers , many yrs ago I toured some DuPont  estates  one of which was  Nemours Estate in Wilmington , Delaware  where I fell in love with Stargazer lilies . The house was filled with vases of these spicy exotic lilies . The interior and gardens were very lovely .

" The Nemours Estate is a 200-acre country estate with jardin à la française formal gardens and a French neoclassical mansion in Wilmington, Delaware. Built to resemble a French château, its 105 rooms on four floors occupy nearly 47,000 sq f "

Re: THE ANN AND GORDON GETTY AUCTION

It is amazing that with all the patterns and colors going on that for the most part the results look rich and beautiful, not cacophonic.

Not only did she go for beauty in her surroundings, it appears that comfort was also an absolute must.  Her furniture is substantial and solid and comfortable looking.  The chairs are roomy, very generous in size.  There are many foot rests, which probably double as pet rests.  It looks like she has accommodated for all sizes and shapes of people.

In the first photo, her dress is nice, it looks a bit like tapestry and the belt looks like tassel curtain tie-backs.  She wears it well.

It appears she put a lot of thought into all things that she did.  For example, the wrapping paper on the presents on the chair next to the gilt console match the surroundings - the red and gold wrapping matches the chair, and the green and gold wrapping matches the green foliage.  In that sweet photo of her and her sons working together to ready the dining room for the dinner gathering, it looks like she coordinated the table flower arrangement to her dress.

Really like her wallpapers throughout.

I like the window seats - the design without a back gives the person an option to face towards the room or face towards the window view.  So often in photos of home interiors the windows may have nice views to the outside, yet the seating faces in towards the room with the backs to the window.

Thanks for the tour.

What a rich, elegant home!  To live in a home like this would constantly be enriching if you love color!

She had a wonderful hand for creating beautiful balanced areas!

Many Thanks!

Such exquisite taste. She was able to surround herself with pure opulence while achieving such an inviting look. The Christmas tree...it is not overly "themed", with gift packages spilling on the floor underneath, so it looks warm and festive. The console with the amaryllis and foil wrapped candies in the apothecary jars...what a wonderful idea to use in one's own home. These photos make me miss my late dear friend who worked at Christie's for many years. She would send me the catalogs right after each auction and I would spend days going through each one.

Re: THE ANN AND GORDON GETTY AUCTION

I've always found the Du Pont houses so alluring, @skatting44 --  how lucky you were to tour!

@QVCisFun  and  @Trailrun23 ,   I appreciate the level of detail you pick up in your observations--  brings to the fore even more fun elements of the set-up.  There's such a level of care that goes into making a harmonious and hospitable room, and you've spotlighted some of them here...
