@Scooby Doo We had the same problem when we remodeled in 2001. The oak cabinets were very new as my dh's mother had them installed before she passed away. We uncovered the oak floors that meet the kitchen floor in two doorways that we widened. I ended up choosing a white floor with light gray "lines" creating squres and contained small black diamond squares within. It was very popular "back then". I had the counter tops done in a white sandstone with tiny black chips. I still love it.

I put the square tiles (Wilsonart/Pergo) in our den. These look like marble. I liked the blend of colors because then it seems to blend easier with all the wood, etc. Our den is paneled in cherry but it has a connecting door to the garage. The floor really gets a workout. I recommend this in a heartbeat. I use a Hann steamer on it every so often but mostly just duster mop it. It wears like iron but looks very nice.
I purchased our flooring at a furniture store but I've seen the same thing at some of the flooring stores. I have ceramic tile in my kitchen but if I didn't I would put this same flooring in that room.
