Re: Suggestions for a new refrigerator

All my appliances are 3 years old. At the time I was choosing appliances I really wanted the KitchenAid french door fridge. But KitchenAid doesn't make a large frig! I would have bought one but they don't. I have a Samsung 4 door and really love it over all of my side-by-side frigs.

Re: Suggestions for a new refrigerator

My so and WDIL have just bought a 3 door fridge, freezer on bottom, and I am REALLY not happy with it when I visit.

I'm never quite sure whether the doors are closed correctly or not, and then I wind up forgetting to ask how you're supposed to close the two upper doors.

Maybe I'm too old to be tutored in fridgedoorclosing.

We've had our Samsung French 4-door stainless fridge now for a little over three years. In that time, we've not had any trouble with it at all. *knock on wood* It has cubed and crushed ice and water in the door. I have filled that thing full to the absolute brim, all drawers, produce, meats, cheeses. The fourth door has had wine and soda, numberous appy trays. It works well for us and we are very pleased.

The only thing we don't like about using the water lines is that the water filter must be replaced every six months. And the Filter reminder light comes on regularly at the end of the six-month period. The filters are little on the pricey side; we buy them from the Big A.

All in all, though, it's a great fridge. It's pretty big; I think it's the biggest one Samsung makes. We used to have a side-by-side and I hated it because it seemed that I couldn't fit everything in it. We entertain often, both family and friends, and trying to fit all the food for dinners, picnics, and parties in the Samsung is much better than our old Kitchen Aid side-by-side. I don't have to ask neighbors and my sister to please store this bowl in their fridge for me.

Love our Samsung.

Re: Suggestions for a new refrigerator

Do not buy a Whirlpool!  We bought a French door Whirlpool last year from Lowe's at a Black Friday sale.  Great deal.  After about 6 months water started leaking from the bottom and there would be a layer of ice under the freezer door.  Something was also making a very loud whirring noise.  Got the leaking/ice problem fixed.  They replaced a plastic drain tube by using a new tube but exactly the same as the old one - but they cut the bottom of to make more room.  It continued to make noise - many times per day - it was so annoying.  We had their service department out about 6 times - they were awful.  Couldn't fix the problem, would cancel appointments for no reason then say we weren't available, change appointments saying they had to order parts first, etc.  Finally hubby complained to Lowe's who put us in touch with the Whirlpool company.  They contacted another local store who does their own service for Whirlpool.  They finally fixed it.  But never again!  And never again from Lowe's.

Re: Suggestions for a new refrigerator

Thanks for everyone's response.  I would probably go with the Kitchen Aide, but like IDA mentioned, they don't make a large refrigerator and I need the room.  I'm comparing prices on the LG and think that will be the final decision.  I really appreciate your comments.  Love being able to come to this forum for honest reviews.

Re: Suggestions for a new refrigerator

I can't recommend a LG.  Ours is awful.  It is a French Door .    About 2 months after the warranty expired, it stopped dropping ice into the bin or out the dispenser in the door.    LG said "so sad, too bad" and it was going to cost almost $1,000 to fix it.  So, we have to turn it off until we need ice and then turn it back on and make sure we turn it off again before the ice bin is full.  It's a PITA but fortunately, we don't have to do that often.

The bins are all plastic and starting breaking right after the IM went crazy.  Plus they started falling off the tracks.  Now it is 10 years old so maybe they have improved them but if the online reviews are still bad, I'd buy another brand.  You won't catch me buying another LG fridge.  What's that saying ...fool me once, shame on you.... fool me twice, shame on me.
