I was inspired by a thread k dash started yesterday, asking if you had a kitchen window in your home. I kind of got off track and told a story of a beautiful chocolate lab that came into my life when I noticed her outside my kitchen window. I think it might be fun to start a thread of stories about what we see outside our kitchen window, and maybe ways that what we have seen has changed our lives. I will share with you the story that I left on k dash's kitchen window thread. Please share your special, heart-warming story:
Let me take you back to a chocolate lab that entered our lives when we first moved into our house several years ago. This strange dog started showing up and we didn't know who she was or where she belonged. She seemed to have made the decision that we belonged to her. She would show up at various times of the day, and sometimes even after dark. When we would have guests over, she would join us on the back deck. Always a perfect lady. As the weather started getting colder, I would see her curled up in a small ball on my front porch. That was when she started sleeping over in the comfort of my kitchen. She was the perfect dog and a wonderful companion. Long story short, she actually belonged to someone that lived about a quarter of a mile from us. They had small children and didn't have much time for her. She knew that we loved her, and she loved us. Sometimes our fur-friends choose us, rather than the other way around. Occasionally her "owner" would walk down the road and call her home. The very next chance she got to get out, she was back on my front porch. How I loved that dog. (we have always had dogs and had two of our own at the time). Once she got nipped by a car in front of our house, and I didn't know it. She came to our front door and had a wild look on her face. I asked her what had happened, and a few moments later a man pulled into our driveway asking if we owned a chocolate lab. He explained to us that he had hit her. I called her "owner" right away and he came down to pick her up. I insisted that he take her to the vet immediately, which thankfully he did. She ended up staying overnight and was released the following day. After that, the neighbor started tying her up in the back yard and I never got to see her again. To ease your mind, she WAS a house dog, only tied when she needed to go outside. I was glad to see that he was keeping her home, but saddened that I never again got to see my beautiful soul-mate-dog. I would take walks past their house sometimes and see her tied out back. I never called to her, because I didn't want to break her heart. I think of her often, in the same way that I think of all the other dogs that I have shared life with. She would have passed by now, but I will always remember Abby. ((tears in my eyes right now))
~*~by the way, I first saw her when I happened to look out one of my kitchen windows~*~
