I use Groupon dot com to find local carpet cleaning companies near me. Groupon lists pro services and many offer special discounts offered by location (your city). You just choose a company then choose the deal they offer (usually by number of rooms or by sq.ft.) and then pay with a cc. You'll get a voucher and from that you can call the carpet cleaners to set up your appointment by calling the number posted on your voucher. Eeezee-peezee.

Re: Steam Mop Suggestions and Questions

We have a light color rug in the bedroom I have spilled and stained it many times. The best thing I have tried if you just want to get stains but not to clean the whole rug.I put some oxi clean in warm water and with a small brush or a face cloth dip it in and rub the area. It comes clean with very little effort. If it doesn't come right up let it sit a little bit and repeat. Good luck. I know you asked about steam mops but I figured I would offer you my suggestion.

I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond and suggestions.

I used the Resolve long handle moping stick.The Resolve carpet cleaner was sold out and decided to use a new tide product that had Oxiclean in it.

Trying to post photos of my cleaned carpet. You can see a shadow of the stain but the room looks to me much better until I can do something else.20230316_102311_kindlephoto-336578440.jpg

@SouthernBee

Resolve also makes a moist powder that you sprinkle onto carpet then take a broom and work the powder down into the fibers. I let it sit overnight and vacuum the next day. I was amazed how much cleaner my carpet looked after that. I keep it onhand for accidents.

It says it's for pet stains but it works on any kind of dirty stain.

Depending upon how long the stains have been there and the age of the carpet, it would prob be best to hire a professional to clean the whole room, or replace the carpet. I have never had much luck removing stains with a steam cleaner; they do sanitize, but aren't really designed for stain removal.

@SouthernBee Carpet cleaners can be rented at grocery and hardware stores.

Also there is a small handheld one which can be purchased - Hoover Portable or Bissle Little Green.  Both are for smaller jobs which may suit your needs.

I would do one of these ...either rent a real heavy duty carpet cleaning machine, get one of those Bissell spot carpet cleaners, or hire a professional to come out and have it done.

I would skip a steam mop.
