Starting a new/ongoing project

We are reworking our 2nd story deck railing, it's been needing repair/maintenance for a while.

Hubby brought the new wood home today and I have started staining it....this could take a few days, lol.

We can't let our little dog on the deck since she lost her eyesight, afraid she will step off, until we get new railing back up.

We both have back issues and the thought of the up and down on a ladder is not enticing either of us. That is why I am staining the wood before installing it. Less time on a ladder, lol.

It's going to be a combination of wood rails/slats and lattice.

Re: Starting a new/ongoing project

We've been working on both decks on our home.  The previous owners sprayed solid stain over mold/mildew and both decks are in bad shape.  So spraying for mold, scraping, scrubbing, stripping..then painting with solid stain to somewhat cover the previous mess..

They also sprayed the wood fence,  now molding, peeling, rotting...has to be replaced..

That's the only things about wooden decks/fences...lots of maintenance...

If I had my way, I would have both decks torn down and put in a patio instead...had a patio in our previous home with a lightweight gazeebo covering....it was really nice...but the decks we have now are built really solid and should last a long time...but HATE the maintenance...

Just getting too old for this stuff...
