I definitely think it works and is beautiful.  The space seems to have been decorated in a manner that makes the stained glass the star of the show.

Yes, it allows for light to come through a tunnel area in a pretty way.   Why do designers go to such lengths yet make a sofa too shallow and uncomfortable?
