I just moved into a condo and the bathroom mirror is right above the lip of the granite top vanity. As hard as we try, water always splashes on the bottom of the mirror which is wood. I am forever wiping it. Any suggestions as to how not let the wood get ruined? My nudes was to put a thin coat of polyurethane just on the bottom part that gets the splashing. What do y'all think?? Do you think it would work? Would it be noticible? Or do any of you have a better idea. Does anyone have a similar problem and did you fix it? I would really appreciate suggestions. Changing the mirror us not an option at this time. Thanks for your help.

You would also have to figure out a way to seal the space between the frame and the glass where water might get in causing rot and mold...........

Yes, thank you.  But then it would be time for a new mirror. But, thankfully, I'm not at that point yet.

A bit of clear silicon between the mirror and the frame would seal it and not be very visible. Also a coat of poly on the frame in a satin or whatever matches the rest of the finish would be an excellent idea.

Thanks so much for that advice. I, too, think it would work with the silicone. And thank for confirming the idea of the poly in the frame.

@Ditzydori

Besides the silicone treatment, you may want to add a tray as shown in this photo:

That is an excellent idea, except how do I it to stay like that. Those folks in Australia must have a trick for keeping things on the floor from crashing to the ceiling.

@jlkz. Any particular reason why your picture is upside down?  Kind of hard to make sense out of it.

@Kachina624

Don't understand---I just checked the post and it appears right side up....?????

There is a large decorative Capiz shell floral-design tray that is upright behind the spigot and resting on the mirror behind it.   The main part of the picture is on the right hand side---I couldn't crop it enough.

@jlkz.  Funny, but it's clearly upside down on my tablet.
