These are such a good idea, but I have concerns about longevity, appearance and functionality in winter.

Any recommendations?

@PickyPicky3  Any solar lights that I ever tried gave off very little light. Tried different brands and gave up.

I have some COB type solar lighting around my house. They have excellent brightness and have lasted a long time compared to some regular solar LED lights I had. The problem I have with the COB lights is that when it gets really cold outside, below 20', some of the lights start strobing. But other than that they work good in the cold and snow.

Mine are also made of metal and glass, except for the solar panel which is resin. I think metal and glass will hold up better than the plastic ones.

I tried one of those solar house number rigs but the front of my house doesn't get enough light so it didn't work for me.

I have other solar lights - I like the energizer brand the best - sometimes QVC sells them. For lighting around the yard, they have been the brightest and most reliable for me.

I'm in WV, and anything solar does not show up well in the winter months here.  Our house number is displayed in 3 different ways; none solar.

From the Internet:

A COB light is a type of LED light, with COB standing for Chip-On-Board. COB lights are essentially an array of LED chips that are tightly packed together and bonded to a substrate such as silicon carbide. In effect this creates one large LED chip that has excellent uniformity of brightness, thus making it ideal for photographers and filmmakers.
