As a purely decorative item, no I'm not a column guy. The same with faux wood beams or the like. If a column is there for a structural purpose, then fine. No problem. It's better than a solid wall. Some houses go a bit column crazy with columns here, there, and everywhere. Not for me. There are times when for structural integrity you need a column (instead of a massive steel beam) and I don't mind a column in that circumstance. The purely decorative ones just eat up space I could use for other stuff.

That would be a big no! I feel they are dated now but give me columns like in Tara and I would buy a mansion tomorrow...

I agree. 

 

Some of the stand alone columns look too big for the rooms.
