So, who likes columns in interior architecture?

When I designed the interior of my house I used lots of columns, mainly because I love them, but from a practical standpoint, they define spaces.  I am able to have my open concept without looking like a barn.

Here are some spaces with columns.  None of these are pictures of my house so you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings if you don't like something.

I love the look of columns very much, but don't find them very practical in terms of floor space and don't like the way they can impede movement when there are a lot of people inside.

I prefer arches. I feel like they can accomplish the same thing without getting bumped into.

Not my style in fact I think they look very dated

I really don't care for them, but they're ok.  My favorite is the next to last pic with the Quen Ann ladder backs.  The rest of the house might flow around antiques.

Not inside. Outside on the right house, yes. If we're talking about a stadium sized open plan house, I'm sure they make sense somehow.

In these pictures, to me, they look like they are blocking free traffic flow around the room, so if I moved into one of these places, I would want to take them out. to improve the flow.

I am not a fan.  I mostly see them in old houses or finished basements where they are built around support posts.

In older homes, they add character.  I love custom wood working.

I like almost all of these pics and I like columns in homes.  That being said, I think the home needs to be LARGE to handle columns.  Like 3, 4, 5k sf homes.

I love them.  I have three of them in my great room which is open plan to the kitchen and dining area.  They also serve a practical purpose to support the ceiling otherwise we would have to have a wall of some kind.  They are beautiful.  They do take up space but they are strategically placed and its such a large area it does not make a difference.

The only columns I like are the ones that have a base beneath as in the last picture.  I do not care for the columns standing alone.
