The new thermostat is where the old one was. I will look for a patch kit as you said. And thank you for the other tips. I appreciate it!

Thank you for this info. I will look into it! Never knew these existed.

Probably true. I am not ready for a full painting job at this time. Thanks.

@Ainhisg wrote:@AngelPuppy1 thank you for asking this question! I had no idea a wall plate existed! @Biftu thank you for the information of the paint scrapings! You both are lifesavers! My husband just knocked a hole in the wall with a barbell, and we wondered how we would match the paint. The whole room will likely have to be repainted, but at least the paint would match the rest of the house. It's worth a shot anyway. Thank you, again!
That's what is so great about the Forum - we find things out that we never knew and new knew existed! Good luck on your repair job!

Yes, I appreciate your tips. I think that's a good idea. I doubt it also. At least this is in a hall.

Never had that happen - thankfully. I won't call these people back. They were messy and I don't care to have them back.

Thank you. I am not very handy but I am always games to tackle a project!

@AngelPuppy1 My thermostat had been already installed and I didn't want try to disconnect it to install a plate and could find none that fit over it. Instead, I purchased a small tube of Dap spakling, filled the small areas that were exposed, smoothed it out, and was lucky to have some leftover paint to apply. I was told, though, that if I didn't have the paint (I wasn't sure and had to look for it) that most paint stores could match it reasonably well with a simple picture taken on my phone. It was also suggested, given the price of paint, that blending from a few inexpensive small bottles of craft paint would work well.

Once we took the thermostat off, we saw that the person who had put this old thermostat in, did not know what they were doing and had made a really large hole - way larger than was necessary! I couldn't seem to find something along the lines of a plate that would work so we are using some spackling. We don't have any paint from before left. I did do exactly what you said - I bought a couple bottles of craft paint which I am going to try and mix to make a color which is close! I told DH it will either work or not -- and if not --- I got a ton of paint swatches and I will go to the paint store and buy regular paint. I hate to do that because paint is so expensive but it is, what it is -- as the saying goes. Well, we will wait and see what happens!
