Shower stall curtain question

i want to put a shower curtain in my bathroom which has a nice sized stall.

I found a shower which which I love but it is a regular shower curtain, not one for a stall.

i have looked at shower stall curtains, but I have not found any I like.

My question, do you ladies think I can get away with a regular sized shower curtain. I was thinking I can position the tension rod a little lower to make up the difference in the length between the SSC and the regular one.

Then the the width would just be more bunched up, but I'm not sure how it would look.  I'm remodeling my bath and I don't want anything to look cheesy.

I prefer shower curtains to shower doors.  Firstly, they are expensive and I have reached my limit on what I want to spend, and secondly, I just like nice shower curtains, my personal preference.

can you ladies give your opinions on the different sizes I will be dealing with?

As always, thank you so much.

Being more "bunched" isn't an issue, IMO.  Go for it and enjoy!

BTW, if it's a standard curtain rather than hookless, I found great hangers BT Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart.  Each hanger has two hooks - one goes to the outside, one goes to the inside.  That allow you to change out the liner or the curtain without messing with the other.  Very easy and convenient.  The top of the hanger has ball bearing so the curtain slides easily.

Re: Shower stall curtain question

Know what you mean by the simplicity of stall shower curtains !

Why not get a heavy duty stall shower liner but place a grommetted textured curtain panel on the outside of it ?  This way you get the protection from the liner at a proper height AND the beauty of a patterned curtain panel that adds to your decor.  JC Penny is or is finishing up their curtain panel sale now.

You may need two rods: one for the liner, one for the panel.

Not being into sewing, I would use the Velcro pads to make the panel a proper length.

Good Luck.

You say you don't want it to look cheesy.  If it were me, I'd keep looking until I found the perfect one.

Re: Shower stall curtain question

If the curtain is too wide, just cut off a piece so that it fits without too much gathering or bunching.  If it's fabric you will have to hem the material.  Look for an adjustable curtain rod if you can't find a shower curtain rod that's short enough.

I learned to do this years ago in a previous home.  It had a shower stall with a glass folding door.  The hinges broke and I just removed the glass door.  I'd have to get a new door custom made and I wanted to use the shower in the meantime.  Good luck.  You can figure it out!

Re: Shower stall curtain question

I use a regular shower curtain on my shower stall. I do cut the liner, so it only hangs on 10 of the 12 hangers. That keeps the liner hanging nice & not bunching up in the shower stall.

@Ditzydori, shower stall curtains can be purchased online, if you haven't already checked.  They're the standard 72-inch length, but come in 36- or 54-inch widths depending on your shower opening.  I believe Bed Bath & Beyond carries them, and you can also find them at Amazon.

Re: Shower stall curtain question

I must live in a hole, as I didn't know there was a difference.

I use a standard cloth shower curtain with a heavy duty plastic liner under it (changed as needed) and both are the size for a regular tub unit, while my shower is about the size of a phone booth!!

I like the look of the pleating (bunching), it looks full and nice without looking tacky, to me, as opposed to my standard sized tub, which has the same set up, but looks like you kind of stretched the curtain clear out, and not as attractive, to me.

Re: Shower stall curtain question

I just saw a clever idea on Rehab Addict regarding shower curtains. She used a window panel drape for the outer layer and mounted a rod to the ceiling to pull the drapery back. I thought that was clever because I always have homes that have these odd shaped bathrooms and tiny showers. You could use your tension rod for the clear shower liner. It really looked elegant. I think you have a better chance of finding the panel that you want with this method. Good Luck.

I found my clear, longer length shower curtain @ Wal-Mart.   I have a double rod, and use a pretty shower curtain in front.
