A shower instead of a tub might be just what a certain buyer is looking for.

Sometimes families with small children prefer a tub in at least one bathroom.

Think about it, if you aren't going to sell your home in the next few years and plan on aging in place, just replace the tub with a shower.

There will always be a market for a shower, instead of a tub.  They are less dangerous and use less water....easier to clean too.

We built our home in 1988 and the tub in the main bath has never been used.  I just have to clean the dust out of it occasionally.

I've sold two homes with walk in showers, no tubs.  There's a buyer for every home.  Live in your home with what you like.

I had a shower installed in my main bath; already had a shower in the downstairs bath.

Soaking in a tub just emphasizes my back problem; never really enjoyed soaking in a tub - seemed like such a waste of time!

If a potential buyer wants a tub, don't think it would be that much to remove the shower and put in a tub as long as they're the same size (5' usually).

Plus, you can't worry about what tomorrow will bring - live and enjoy each day!

We are plannng to covert the tub in our master bathroom to a walk-in shower. I do OK with the stepping over but with DH's health issues has a hard time.  Our other bath has a tub/shower.

I'm not concerned with resale.  I say do what is best for you.

We have 2 indoor showers and one nice outdoor shower.  Just had the tub taken out of our bathroom to replace with a shower.  Footprint is smaller now, so a wall would have to be knocked out, if buyers wanted a tub.

Same goes for the guest bathroom, smaller linen closet (walk-in) to accomadate a tub.

But I'm not worrying about any of it.  I wanted showers only.  There are plenty of buyers who don't desire a tub.

And a small tub could be used for infants/toddlers.  It's what I used inside my bathtub when bathing my babies.

Re: Shower Instead of Tub

IMG_0336.jpegI don't know how large a space would be created by the removal of your tub, but you could consider what they call a wet room.   It's a walk in shower that has a tub placed at one end of it.   In that case you get the best of both worlds.   You can search online for some examples.  Here is a picture for concept

@QVC101 That is a great idea, haven't heard of this concept.  The bathroom is fairly small so I'll have to see if the dimensions needed would be an option.  I am certainly going to look into this.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Agree, @Lucky Charm .  I'm sure having a walk-in shower may also appeal to pet owners as many having large dogs find it aconvenient way to wash your furbaby at home: definitely  more convenient !

I think since you already have shower, why not redo your current tub with one of those walk-in ones?  People say they are wonderful and are so much easier to get in and out of.  Also, I have heard that not having any tub in a home could be a negative if you ever do decide to sell your home.

I would freeze to death using one of those walk-in tubs since you have to sit there while all the water drains out.
