We have a glass shower door and I cleaned it this morning with a combo of white vinegar and baking soda. Thought I'd share this with you since it worked great!

Make a paste of vinegar and soda. Apply to door with a sponge. Wait 15 minutes (more or less depending on amount of soap scum). Sponge off. Clean with Simple Green (diluted) to get rid of residue from the paste. Then clean/polish with Windex. The door looks great ... and no more soap scum.

Every few days I take a dryer sheet into the shower with me and wipe down the doors. Keeps the soap scum down to a minimum and makes it easier when I do my thorough cleaning.

Blubird, I've never tried a dryer sheet but have used a number of store bought cleaning products to remove the soap scum. None of them worked as well as the vinegar and soda combination. And it's an easy process to boot so I give it a thumbs up. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

We squeegee the doors after a shower and it keeps the scum at bay until it is cleaned thoroughly. I'm going to bookmark your recipe tho. Thanks for posting.

There are two threads re: Dawn (blue) dish soap . I have a feeling that it might work on shower doors, too. p.s. The baking soda and vinegar is a great alternative. Thanks! I use vinegar and/or baking soda a lot! Also, I had an older tube of inexpensive toothpaste from the dollar store which I used this morning to clean/shine the top of my stove, and also the chrome. Just wet it a bit, using a paper towel or baby wipe.

I'll try yours if you try mine :-) The dryer sheet is good for a quick clean when I don't have time to do a thorough one.

I use vinegar and Dawn in any color and it works great! Of course we now squeegee after every shower and that's what really makes them look clear. I resisted for many years about using the squeegee. My friend told me it was the way to go and now I have my husband trained.

Love your formula for getting shower doors clean but PLEASE do NOT use Simple Green in any shape or form, diluted or not, near your glass shower doors and surround! I learned the hard way. It etched and permanently stained my glass shower doors. AND discolored the metal in the track. So bad that when we sell our home in a few years we'll have to replace the doors. Just rinse your doors down with water to rid it of the residue left from the vinegar & soda. Just a heads up...

I do a couple of things to reduce shower scum.

1. I squeegee the shower after every use. Yes if you have a family, they are likely to be lazy and not want to do this, but if you make them scrub out a scummy shower, they may be more motivated.

2. I coat the glass with Rain-X (the kind for outside the glass.) That plus the squeegee keeps ninety percent of the scum off for months.

3. I wax the tiles in the shower with car wax. Water beads up and rolls off.KEEP THE WAX off the FLOOR of the SHOWER!!!!!!!

4. When the glass is scummy anyway, I use a general cleaner on the glass (not Simple Green) -any glass suitable spray, and 0000 fine steel wool. The steel wool that is very fine won't scratch the glass and does help to take off stubborn scum.

For Soap Scum I use Dish Detergent, Baking Soda, and warm Water. I works better than any cleaner that I have tried.
