Of course there is always the storage ottomans and benches that Valerie and FHE sell here. I bought a lot of those. They are great for use in rooms (our family room has them with Christmas decor, and another with throws) as furniture that stores things needed in that room! The are great stacked in closets for longer term storage as well.

When my husband built my studio onto our home, years ago, he insisted on a twelve foot ceiling....so glad he did. We have shelves running all the way around the room and it has provided a lot of storage space for me.
I use it mostly for seasonal decorating items and things that the heat of the attic would ruin. I also use this space for decor overflow....don't know what I would do without it.

I also have a few framed art/paintings under my bed. Haven't decided yet after moving 5 yrs ago where I am going to hang them.
You are probably a better housekeeper than I am, but I'll give you this heads-up anyway, @Mz iMac
I had a framed art piece standing between a dresser and the wall because I didn't have the perfect spot to hang it either.
For a while there were a lot of moths and I couldn't figure out where they were coming from. It turned out their larvae were happily grazing on the paper backing of the art piece that I hadn't moved for a couple of years (other than light dusting, but not moved out of the spot). So, total ick. I just wouldn't want that to happen at your house.

@Mominohio wrote:It isn't rocket science, but I have been, over the last couple of years, putting some extra blankets on the extra and guest beds in my home that rarely get used (almost never at this point in time). When I make up the bed, I can put two or three blankets on the bed, under the quilt and no one knows the difference by looking at the room.
It frees up some of my linen closet space, allows me to keep a couple more blankets than I really have room to store, and keeps them out of sight and clean.
Do you have any storage hacks that we could all benefit from?
I just love reading your posts so many of them just remind me of ME ![]()
I do the same thing with blankets, quilts, bedspreads and even have a few things stored UNDER the mattress. I also store a few rugs under couch cushions. We downsized a little over a year ago but have not quite downsized all my "stuff" yet. We bought an older home and the guest bedroom has a very narrow but quite deep closet. DH built shelves floor to ceiling behind the hanging rod for extra storage.

I wish I did because everyday I need to get creative!!!!
As you know, last 8 weeks have been comprised of preparing & "decluttering or purging" & here's what I discovered:
& so much more🙄😮
The one trick I learned here underbed boxes. In them, extra sheets & towels, extra framed pics no longer displayed, wrapping paper, melamine outdoor entertaining, tableclothes and matching paper items, glass holiday decor, & more. I bought the "square deep ones with clipon top not the long ones.
I have so much room in my closets, cabinets, it's scary😳.
and its such a great feeling to use this motto " everything in its place and a place for everything," Taught my kids starting age 5 how to sort laundry & fold, make beds, clear table, and more appropriate chores.
I'm still going strong haven't bought any unnecessary things whether home decorOR clothing!!!!
I have a large decorative box to store my cards, stamps, address box.
As my life change so does the way I look at my "stuff"...

When we moved and downsized 3 years ago I opted to get rid of all things I would store. I am limited in storage space here but live life without clutter and junk packed everywhere. I tried to put those boxes under my bed for my extra purses but just couldn't stand the clutter under there! I need things to be free and open. I find that I'm living my life just fine without stuffing things in every imaginable space in my home. ![]()

Just recently I bought a new mattress and instead of putting it on a conventional box spring, I bought a steel-slatted bed frame which gave me a huge amount of space under my bed. This new frame allowed me to store stuff where my old box spring was taking up the space. It's freed up a bunch of shelves in my linen closet. I couldn't be happier.![]()

I had never thought about rugs under couch cushions! I have some thin, rubber backed throw rugs for the entry ways. They would lay perfectly (the clean ones of course!!) flat right there!
Great new idea! Thanks!

- Linens -Used to have 4-5 xtra sets for guest / master bedrooms (both have cal. king beds). Summer/winter comforters & quilts, blankets. now - 1 extra set each room of sheets, using quilts w blanket only.
- Towels, etc. - Used to have 7 in guest bath w/hand & washclothes. Now - 4 each. Master bath (oh my tons) now have 8 (just 2 of us) includes set hanging for decorative but downsized washcloths & hand towels to 4.
- Clothing/shoes/handbags/accessories- if I hadn't used or worn in a year put in donation bag. Let my friend whose my size & style "shop first" she works p/t.
- Dishes/bakeware/kitchen/entertaining -- picked out my. favorite & only ones used on a regular basis. Sold or donated rest.
- Home decor: totally downsized including holiday.
- Excess accent furniture: sold or donated.
& so much more🙄😮

Amen to the last line!
And I know we have been following each other's purge, but I have to say, I've been on the same journey, and purged much of the same stuff you have, but I don't know how you had the will to purge the linens!!!
So much of today's towels and bed linens are just junk. I've found some great winter and summer sheets (we definitely have a need for very opposite kinds of sheets), and stocked up on both kinds, as I was having trouble finding sheets that were quality and would last.
We have two queen beds that I now have a total of 10 sets of sheets for. Five summer sets and five winter sets. That is 10 sets of just queen sheets (another 4 sets for the twin in the spare room). If somebody made me give up any of those queen sheets, I think I might faint! LOL
I stopped buying them several years ago, when my favorites were discontinued, and I have no plans to buy anymore until we wear through at least half of these. But boy do they take up a lot of room! Today's sheets are huge, because of the deep mattresses.
And towels, well, we'll just say that some time in the future, you all may see my towel obsession on some future episode of Hoarders!
These two areas of my purging are never going to live up to the definition of the word. I'm willingly giving up other things in my purge to save room for these two categories!
