Re: Shocked the QVC advertised Malden Mills Polar Fleece sheets when they're not!

I ordered this TSV and just received them today. They are identical to the four other sets that I have and those have been washed and dried many times over and are still perfect. No shedding, no pilling; just follow the instructions for care. (Also, Berkshire Blanket does various "weights" of fleece. If you look on the packaging label that comes with these, you'll see they say "medium warmth".)

These are not thick fleece like you'd get in a jacket. They are lightweight, as they said in the presentations, but don't be fooled - they're warm, soft and cozy. However, I have to state that, unlike some other comments, they are not so thin you can see your hand through them! Not unless you hold them up to the light. {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Malden Mills developed and patented the PolarFleece fabric many years ago (Polartec). However, Berkshire Blanket has been manufacturing them for some time now. A quote from their website:

"Polartec® is synonymous with premium quality performance fleece and as their exclusive partner, Berkshire Blanket is thrilled to be the only company to make the fabric for their blankets, sheets, and throws."

As for QVC calling them "Malden Mills" instead of "Berkshire Blanket", that's probably to let the customer know that they are the patented Polartec fabric and not a cheaper imitation. (Believe me, I've had other brands that had to be thrown out after one season!)

whitelinen - I hope you enjoy your new sheets for many years to come. I know we'll be enjoying ours! Smile

That's good to know. I wanted to order these when they were the TSV, but I have to wait until I can afford them. They are the few sheer sets that can fit a larger mattress.

Although this is my first purchase of the polar fleece sheets, I have to agree with Venezia. You definitely cannot see you hand through them. These feel wonderful. I am washing them now so that I can put them on my bed for tonight. I also purchased H202903 and they are the same as the tsv - wonderful.

Re: Shocked the QVC advertised Malden Mills Polar Fleece sheets when they're not!

Just to chime in another experience, my mom ordered these and they arrived today. We have no others to compare them to, but I have to say, I wasn't impressed.

She washed them according to package instructions. No lint in the washer, minimal lint in the dryer trap.

They are thinner than expected, and the elastic doesn't seem all that substantial (that is often the downfall of a sheet, the elastic doesn't last as long as the fabric). She has an old fashioned skinny mattress with a feather bed and two memory foam toppers, and the fitted sheet did fit over everything.

But... they did shed and pill after dried (even though it didn't end up in the lint trap, but left on the sheets) when putting them on the bed, and she had to use a lot of sheets from a lint roller to get them "clean". When I rubbed my had over them, simulating what kind of action you would get while sleeping on them and turning over in bed, they would shed and pill.

I have NN flannel sheets from at least 5 years ago, and they had an awful shedding problem in the beginning, but they "outgrew" that and are fine now. Hopefully these will too. I had a set on check hold, but after seeing hers, I'm not going to get them. I'm afraid by tomorrow morning, she will have fuzz and lint all over her blankets. They were very soft and cuddly feeling, but the big drawback for me was the cheap elastic and the shedding/pilling. If they can get that under control, I'd buy. I tried to get some of the ones (maybe Ella?) that got so many high reviews last year, but I waited too long, and my size was gone. Wish I had stepped up sooner, because I think this is another product that Q cheapened after getting people hooked on a nicer version.

Some reviews are already in on these sheets - every size of sheet of the TSV has 5 star ratings.

Re: Shocked the QVC advertised Malden Mills Polar Fleece sheets when they're not!

I just checked all 5 sheet sets I have (2 sets from the TSV with 4 pillowcases; 2 sets from last December [Ella] and the latest TSV). All of them have black tags inside saying "Berkshire Blanket".

I've thrown my new set in the washer and will wash and dry them tomorrow to see if they come out any differently than the other 4 sets. I believe the rep and host said, during the presentation I watched, that you may get some lint coming off during the first couple of washes, but that it will go away.

As for pilling, I can only speak of my own experience: none of the four older sets I have have shown any signs of pilling and they've even stood up to my cats' kneading. (The cats love these sheets!) I do not use fabric softener on them ever.

Thanks to all who commented on the TSV or their experience with MM fleece sheets.

Sounds as if I missed the boat on these; will take a close look at them when they arrive. The construction of the elastic corners will be the deciding factor for me.

Can anyone suggest another brand of fleece sheets to rival MM?

They feel like the material used in those cheap Santa hats and stockings.

That's a perfect description! That's what they feel like!

Re: Shocked the QVC advertised Malden Mills Polar Fleece sheets when they're not!

{#emotions_dlg.blush} I have to post a correction..... I should have checked before I opened my big mouth.

I said the sheet sets I bought last yr were tagged Malden Mills. I was wrong. They say Bershire Blanket not Malden Mills. They are wonderful.I have enjoyed them very much. Great quality sheets. No lint,no pilling,no nothing. I have not taken them off my bed since I bought them last yr. I bought 3 sets and wash them normally,so special cycles,no fab softener, weekly with no problems what so ever. I kept them on all summer and was not hot.

I will never go back to regular cotton sheets again, ever!!!!

So do not be alarmed because your sheets say Bershire and not MM. Unless Berkshire has somehow cheapened the fabric this yr,they will be the best purchase you have ever made.

p.s.

The elastic is just fine. IMO These sheets are very different than what we all are used to and they are made with plenty of room to tuck under any size mattress.
